Cutline search box
-
Hi,
I use Cutline, and I have just set up a blog using it, too, and I was surprised to see that the default settings give me a nice, Cutline-style search box on the top of the sidebar, but the moment I put another widget there, it disappears, and when I drag “search” onto the sidebar, it is the simple old type of box. Is there a way to get back that nice, default search box of Cutline’s? -
Oh, now that I’m here – another question or rather questions concerning Cutline:
1. Can I change the “Front Page” link to “Home” or sg equivalent in my language?
2. Can I change the order of main menu links? (They seem to be ordered alphabetically it seems, and I see no way of changing it…)
Thank you!!! -
ooops, were my questions so stupid or irrelevant that it should be set aside? :) just asking…

(1) The search box that comes with the theme cannot be changed.
(2) The blogger can choose which page will be a “frontpage” (the first one readers see) and which one will be their running “posts page”. -> dashboard -> options -> reading -> reading options (select your choices and then click “update options”)
(3) The page order (menu) is theme dependent, is usually alphabetical and cannot be changed. -
Timethief, thank you for the reply.
1) you say that the search box comes with the theme and cannot be changed – that’s what I’m saying, but with Cutline it does change! (the default search box changes the moment I touch the sidebar).2) I understand that I can change which page is to be viewed as front page – the question is can I change the name of the link (in Hungarian “Front Page” doesn’t mean anything, while “Kezdőlap” rings a bell)
3) okay, thanks – I tried with the page order, but nothing happened, so I’ll leave it at that, not a big problem after all.
Thanx anyway, I really appreciate it!

(1) I tried it too and see what you mean. Maybe feedback to the designer will lead to an upgrade that ensures the default search box is retained (feedback).
(2) The language change of this page should be reported to Ryan as he is the one working on the languages project (feedback).
(3) Maybe feedback to the designer will lead to an upgrade that ensures the page order can be chosen by the blogger (feedback).
P.S. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help but all three of these seem to be feedback items. :) -

I hate to thread necromancy, but I have a question about searching within Cutline. When I do a search, the results show Categories listed as Tags.
Does anybody know if there’s a plan to fix this?

Your best bet is to send a feedback informing staff that the bug exists. They may not be aware of it.

@bankkung
This is what is linked to your wordpress.com username and it is not a wordpress.com blog. http://bankkung.gulife.com/diary/The forum you have posted to is only for free hosted wordpress.com blogs. If you have downloaded software from wordpress.org then please be aware that you are posting to the wrong forum and, as we run on different software, we cannot help you here. I use Cutline on both my blogs. The clean and mimimalist style is a classic (IMHO).
Nevertheless.the unchangeable default page order and ‘front page’ (not home) title are both details which I would also like to change.
The designer is Chris Pearson (http://pearsonified.com). My understanding is that Cutline has evolved considerably since its original release over 12 months ago and later versions are available for use on WordPress.org.
The issue therefore lies not with the designer but with WordPress.com using early draft vanilla versions.
Looks like a feedback is in order. Or else you’d have to buy the css upgrade and try to fix these issues yourself.
Good luck and happy blogging !

I have a question about Cutline, but can’t seem to get it answered.
Basically I would like to know if the new standard for blogs is 1024 x 768, and Cutline *does not* view well in 800 x 600.
There is a *huge* horizontal scroll bar in IE. 6.x.
So many people are using Cutline that I am wondering if they are no longer concerned with those viewing in 800 x 600.
Has the higher resolution become the norm.
This is a very important question to me.
Thanks.

Hi, Roz. IE6 doesn’t play well. Your site looks fine in IE7.
This forum is for free wordpress.com blogs; as you’re self-hosted you’ll need to be elsewhere for support: http://wordpress.org/support
btw, I bookmarked your ecards. Shalom!

Thanks so much Ellaella:
When I was here before I did not see the reply box!
I visited your blog and left a message early this morning. Thanks for bookmarking my eCards. Shalom to you as well.
I think what I am going to do – reluctantly – is to use a different theme for now so that I can move ahead.
Thanks again for the response.

Just to add my voice to the chorus, I really like the simplicity of cutline but hate the plain search box that gets used when you use the widgets. The original one is so much nicer. Could it really be that hard to make it match?
