Cutoff Rainbow Banner Without Addressing The Concernes Raised? Seriously?

Holy smokes, WordPress! Your own actions make you look fascist.

    1. Obviously you support one side of the issue that was decided by the supreme court and now you are forcing it down the throats of everyone, whether they agree, disagree or are ambivalent or apolitical.

    2. When folks from a variety of viewpoints asked to have it taken down, you cut off discussion of the issue without even addressing it. That is totalitarian instinct if I ever saw it. Silence debate and impose your view.

    3. If discussing this issue violates the community standard, then you yourselves violated it by jamming it down everyone’s throats to begin with. You want your say, then silence all dissent.

    4. You are welcome to support whatever causes you want, but for those of us who don’t engage in political issues, why must we be made to care?

    5. For an organization so seemingly “enlightened”, this is an ominous development. It feels similar to the jamdown of the new stats page. Scary.

That is fine Timethief, but the “happiness engineers” monitor this stuff too and a great many users interact with the solely through the forum. Besides, they made this a public issue so they ought to address it publicly.

Amen! Whoever is in control of this, needs to remove it. Completely unprofessional!

Agreed, bubbasuess. I don’t really care about the question of gay marriage in America, since like many, many of WP’s customers I’m not American, but I strongly object to them politicising our blogs and then refusing to allow people to speak freely about it. I guess gay marriage is OK in America but freedom of speech isn’t any more? Did the Supreme Court rule on that one today too? If they don’t want the forums to become political then they should keep their own politics to themselves. My blog is not there for the purpose of WP spouting their own subliminal messages at me…

Fascist-like behavior is why we call gay activists in America, The Gaystapo.

Come on WordPress! Do what is right and take down that stuff.

    Thank you!

Just to clarify – I disagree with almost everything squeekyfromm says, but I defend her right to say it.

Thank you! The same applies here. Free speech is pretty much just a matter of mutual respect and tolerance. Which is what makes the heavy-handed use of the rainbow flag so distressing.

Pretty simple: Nobody is restricting your freedom of speech. If you have an opinion, go blog about it. This isn’t a political forum.

WordPress staff need to provide a way for users who don’t want this ‘Rainbow Banner’ to opt-out in a user-friendly manner. This bs reminds me of the stupid ‘snow fall’ pranks they put out a few years ago. A very strange company.

I agree with the SCOTUS decision but I would like to turn the rainbow banner on and off myself on my admin page.

    How about it, happiness engineers?

  • Unknown's avatar

carl55555 agreed, but the point is that my stats and reader pages are not political fora either – but WP have used them as if they were.

Plus, and this is the most important point, the thing is aesthetically hideous!

It’s a 47 pixel tall bar, and I’m sure it’s not permanent. Political statement or not, they control the site, and have the right to do so. Your rights have not been infringed upon. It’s really not that big of a deal. If you don’t like it, go to Tumblr or something… oh, wait, nope, their logo is a rainbow too.

That’s a great idea! Freedom to choose! Next time some gay couple wants a wedding cake, and the baker’s don’t want to bake it, the gay couple can just go to another baker! Oh wait. That didn’t work. The Gaystapo sued. . .Oh, Never mind! What was that Hawking said,

The arrow of tolerance only goes in one direction!
