Cyberchimps Responsive Theme – Gallery Sidebar Widgets
-
Widgets are truncated in the “Gallery” Sidebar. The “Search” widget at following link is an example:
http://localmassagenearme.com/massage-near-me/massage-therapy-near-me/
This occurs on each site where I am using Cyberchimps “Responsive” theme, no matter which widget I use.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

According to the theme’s Showcase page http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/responsive/ , the Gallery widget sidebar should appear only on Image Attachment pages (more about those here).
I’m not familiar enough with the theme you are using (Responsive), but will try to test it later.

Hi justjennifer,
Yes, the linked page:
http://localmassagenearme.com/massage-near-me/massage-therapy-near-me/
is an “Attachment Page“.

Hi Vernon,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention! I was able to duplicate the same behavior. I have brought it to the attention of our theme department and as soon as I have any additional information I will let you know!

Hi amightywp,
Thank you for your assistance! On a related note, I noticed Cyberchimps has just released a new version of the “Responsive” theme:
http://cyberchimps.com/responsive-ii/
Just wondering if there are plans to make this updated (free version) available on WP. The current version of the theme, especially for Business purposes, is arguably the best offering by WP (although it isn’t much to look at).
It would be great to see the updated version available to WP users, and I would imagine in WP’s best interest as a provider of services to small business.

Almost forgot to mention… When using the “Landing Page (no menu)” template under “Page Attributes”, the width of the image is constrained as if a right sidebar is present. Example:
On this page, the image was uploaded at 1000px wide, but will not display any wider than 605px, the max width of the content area when a sidebar is present. Oddly, you can center justify the image within the full width layout, but it remains 605px wide.
I cannot determine if the “Landing Page” template was designed to make use of the right sidebar or display as full-width. But it seems that if the template is supposed to behave as a “Full Width” layout, that both the text AND image content should make use of the entire width (which is 918px).
Note in my linked example that the text line length exceeds 605px (the “horizontal line” element extends the full width (918px), but the image width is constrained to 605px.

Any updates to the theme will largely be up to the developers themselves. Updates have to go through a similarly rigorous code review as an initial submission, and some theme designers choose not to go through that kind of effort.

Re: Theme update: If I encourage the developers to submit the theme/code, and IF they agree, how likely would it be that WP will go along.
I am not a programmer/developer, but would be happy to be involved with any testing and troubleshooting.

Just saying that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and as amightywp said:

Thanks for replying!
Yes, I am quite familiar with the differences between WP.org (self-hosting) and WP.com… I have websites hosted using both methods… hence, the reason for asking the “update” question.
I have noticed WP.com take several steps to entice more “business” websites, as opposed to purely blogging sites. As a web marketing service provider, I am thrilled to see the move in that direction, as there are MANY benefits for my customers to host with WP.com over the self-hosting route.
However, there still aren’t enough “business” themes on WP.com that accommodate the needs of a “business” website. Actually, Cyberchimp’s “Responsive” theme is the only one that has the features that my “business” customers need. One example, being able to display a phone number, hours, etc. in the header when viewed on a mobile device. This is crucial because ALL of my website customers receive most of their site visitors via smartphones.
Only drawback with the current “Responsive” theme is it has a “dated” look. The new version is much more appealing.
Thanks again for your help…

You are certainly welcome to reach out to the developers and ask them to make a submission. Not being one of the people who takes part in the theme review process (and additionally not having seen the code for the new version of the theme), I couldn’t even begin to comment on whether or not the theme would be approved or how easy that process would be.
Sorry I can’t be of more help!

Thanks for bringing this bug to our attention! The sidebar area for single images in Responsive has been fixed.
Cheers,
Caroline
