Daily Prompts & Pingbacks
-
Hi! I would like to join the Daily Prompts. I have tried to join twice. I’m a little bit confused on how to do this. I have written two blog posts using the prompts, starting by clicking on ‘Post about Brave’ and ‘Post about Cacophony’ on the Daily Prompt post message in my reader. I then write the blog post and publish. However, I don’t see my posts on the ‘Brave’ or the ‘Cacophony’ list of responses (post links). Is there a step I am missing? I am unclear on how to do the Pingbacks and was thinking I just needed to click on the ‘Post on ____’ line first before going into my drafts and writing the post, and then publish it. I’m sorry to bother you, I love blogging, but I am ‘technically challenged.’ Thanks so much for your assistance!!! =)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello!
Sometimes it takes a little while for your post to show up in the Grid, even if doing pingbacks correctly.
However.. to do the pingpack… for example, for ‘cacophony’, did you add something like the following to the HTML tab of the editor:
<a href="https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/cacophony/">Cacophony</a>Note: it needs to be within the post content.
Let me know if I could help further.

It might be that the setting is turned off on your blog.
To check, please go to:
https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/
… and in the ‘Default Article Settings’ section, be sure that “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article” is activated.

One more thing that a colleague noticed…
You are linking to: https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2017/10/23/cacophony/ – which…. ultimately does go to the same place, but the pingback could be getting lost in the redirect.
If you change the URL to: https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/cacophony/ and re-save the post, that might get your content in the grid on that page :)

The proper HTML and URL to use can always be found by clicking on the “Show Instructions” link on each prompt page.

Hi! Thank you so so so much for helping me!! This was very helpful. I’m a slow learner when it comes to these kinds of things. I checked the “cacophony” post, and when I clicked on the HTML tab there appears:
via <ahref=”https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2017/10/23/cacophony/”> Daily Prompt: Cacophony
So that’s good. I did something like this for the “brave” post as well. Maybe for the “cacophony” post, it was too early and it just hasn’t appeared in the list.
I live in Asia, so I see the prompt late at night but don’t respond until the next morning (these are my times here)…twelve or so hours different than the States and 8 or so hours different for Europe.
I also followed your instructions, going to the “attempt to notify any blogs…” section and made sure it was activated.
I tried changing the URL but when I exit the post it doesn’t save. I’ll play around with this some more and wait to see if it appears after some time.
Again, thanks so much!! Take care, Brenda =)
