DARA template and it does not look friendly to cell phones.

Hi, I’m thinking of switching to this template because it seems a lot easier than the one I have. However I did a test and I installed the DARA template and it does not look friendly to cell phones. How do you improve this?

    Hi Karem,

I am seeing that your site ideasparalaclase.com is hosted by BlueHost. This means you are using the self-host version of WordPress.

You would use the WordPress.org support which can be found here: https://wordpress.org/support/

You can find out the difference between .com and .org here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Can i use this theme or not? thanks

  • Hi karemkcp,

As tassywassy has correctly stated, your site located at ideasparalaclase.com is hosted with Bluehost and is a self-hosted WordPress.org installation, you will need to contact WordPress.org support:
    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

This forum is only for support with sites hosted at WordPress.com. If you need a refresher on the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can find more information here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

That being said, the Dara theme is indeed mobile friendly for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org. You can find more information about the theme here:

    https://wordpress.com/theme/dara

To quickly demo the mobile functionality of this theme, click on the “Open Live Demo” link and select “Phone” from the drop-down on the top left of the demo.

However, as I stated earlier, you will need to direct support requests to the WordPress.org forums for further assistance with your site. The official theme page for Dara on WordPress.org is located here:
    https://wordpress.org/themes/dara/

Please click on the “View support forum” button if you need help with the theme for WordPress.org installations.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Karem,

Since you are using WordPress.org there are different features available to you than what would be available on WordPress.com. This is the reason I directed you to their support so that you can be provided with the possible options.

There should be plug-ins available on WordPress.org that would allow you to make your theme responsive. Going to the WordPress.org support would allow you to get more information on those plug-ins and how to apply them to your site.

ideasparalaclase.com is hosted by Unified Layer
    Name Servers:
    ns2.bluehost.com
    ns1.bluehost.com

WordPress.COM themes https://wordpress.com/themes/ are licensed for use on wordpress.COM hosted sites only. They are not transferable to WordPress>ORG software installs.

Go to https://wordpress.com/theme/dara and scroll to the end of the page to locate the download link. This theme is available for download to be used on your WordPress self-hosted installation.

That site is not on our WordPress.COM servers. You are posting to the wrong support forum to get support for it. Also be aware of who the web host is for your site and contact them directly for any hosting issues.

This is wordpress.COM support. We do not provide support for local installs of wordpress.ORG software, or for wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    wordpress.org support
The wordpress.ORG support forum is at
http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

    Jetpack support
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack
However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service

    Hi there,

If you click into the detailed theme description page for any theme and scroll to the end of the page you will sometimes find this:
This theme is available for download to be used on your WordPress self-hosted installation. [DOWNLOAD link].

You are nice Thank you very much. I am very anxious because I have been trying to put a topic for 15 days and many things have happened to me. I simply want it to be seen on cell phones as well as on computers. I was with Colorlib and his theme ACTIVELLO, because I had this problem.

I do not handle the configuration very much so I get a little nervous. My blog is very important to me.

And until the moment no one has been able to help me to update it.

    Thanks for your help.

  • You’re welcome karemkcp! :)

I have one last question Is it okay to be at wordpress.org? Should I make any changes?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @tassywassy

Welcome to the support forums. I have been here for over 11 years and have no intention of being on Staff. I predate all support docs and all support staff being on staff except for one member. I am a thread tagger and you will find that there is rarely ever a question posted to these support forums that ha not been asked and answered correctly previously. :)

    @karemkcp
What do you mean by okay?

The pros and cons of being free hosted by WordPress.com or self hosting a WordPress.org software install are summed up very well in this support documentation entry – WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you are an experienced WordPress.com software user, and have the skill sets required to set up and manage your own self hosted WordPress.org install then the instructions for making the move are easy to follow. But if you are not skilled at WordPress.com blogging, and also lack the skill sets required to self host your own WordPress.org install then acquiring those skills first is recommended.

You will be responsible for all upgrades, installations, backups and troubleshooting. If you install a theme or a plugin that negatively affects your blog, then you have to figure out what went wrong and fix it. Sometimes it is a conflict with another plugin, sometimes is it is just a poorly written plugin.

If you install a plugin with a security flaw, and your blog is hacked, you had better have a good, recent backup or you might just lose everything. I cannot stress the importance of frequent backups.

It’s my not humble opinion based on over 11 years of experience that many people who start out on wordpress.ORG installs feel they are out of their element so they move to wordpress.COM where Staff do all wordpress version upgrades and provide excellent support.

When it comes down to appearance and theme issues I never recommend that a newbie starts out with a wordpress.ORG install because my focus is strictly on creating high quality content that engages readers and to me themes are like clothes which I change frequently, but there are others who do not agree with me. lol :D

P.S. Whenever someone here at wordpress.COM says a responsive layout theme like Dara does not look good on cell phones I post this prewritten response below.

The mobile ready theme on your wordpress.COM site is a default theme and a completely different theme that you do not need to enable, if your wordpress.COM theme is listed as a responsive layout theme here https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout/

The wordpress.COM mobile default theme is provided for those who run older themes that aren’t the gold standard which is responsive layout.

A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

When we use a WordPress.COM responsive theme we disable the mobile theme. Go to >Dashboard > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme

    http:/NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=mobile-options

    * Replace NAME_OF_BLOG with the actual name of your blog in that URL.

You can read more in the support docs at https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/

You can test your site at this link https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I actually configured what I could. Anyway I pay for that service. What worries me is the sarcasm and the lack of professionalism of some people who are dedicated to serving the client. I feel a little mocked, although I do not mortify because I am a teacher and I just like to learn. I have not been 11 years programming web pages … I have 12 years teaching my students and I would never mock whoever asks me questions or needs my help. Because everyone deserves my respect and help.

    Thank you very much .

    I’ll keep working.

No one answering support questions here ever mocks another person. We are here specifically for the purpose of providing polite and accurate responses. Best wishes.

  • Hi there –

However I did a test and I installed the DARA template and it does not look friendly to cell phones.

Just to reiterate: Dara is completely responsive and mobile-friendly, so I’m not sure what you were seeing when you tested it. As Sam mentioned earlier, if you have any other questions about Dara for your self-hosted site, please feel free to ask in the Dara forum over at WordPress.org:

    https://wordpress.org/support/theme/dara

You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/register.php

Good luck with your site and maybe see you over at WordPress.org!
