I started using the free WordPress site: bethhatikva.wordpress.com and love the Featured Images being used at the top of pages, but when I installed this theme on a paid service, the Featured Images doesn’t show up at the top of the pages.

I also don’t see the color themes that I used to see on the dot WordPress.com site.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Colour palettes are a WordPress.com feature. I created a Gist with the colour palette you’re currently using: https://gist.github.com/kathrynwp/24556618a6db8fbc2f275ff87e1c7bb8

On your self-hosted site, you can copy this code into the CSS editor included in the Customizer, at Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS.

I’m not sure why you’re not seeing the featured images, but someone can take a look over at WordPress.org when you make your post. Be sure to provide a link there to your new self-hosted site so folks can troubleshoot.
