Dara Theme not displaying featured content slider
-
I am revising an existing site with the new one to be based on the Dara theme. I cannot get the featured content slider to appear. What needs to be set to get this to work? Customize → Featured Content does not appear in the customizer. The three featured pages work.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I should have noted that I am doing the development of the site locally, i.e., via MAMP & localhost.

These are the instructions from this page https://wordpress.com/theme/dara/collaborativecounselingservice.wordpress.com, and it worked for me:
“The Featured Content slider appears on the front of your site. To set it up:
1. Go into Customize → Featured Content and in the Tag Name field, add a tag to identify your featured content, such as “featured” or another word. Do not use any spaces or special characters.
2. Add this same tag to any post, page, or portfolio project you’d like to add to the slider. (Click on Page -> Tags -> Add tag that you specified)
3. Set a featured image of at least 1180px wide for each post, page, or portfolio project added to the slider. If no Featured Content tag is set, the Featured Image set for the front page will display in this area instead.”
I hope that works for you. If you figure out how to change the order of the pictures in the slider, let me know because I haven’t gotten that far. Good luck!

Hi. This support forum is solely for issues regarding WordPress.com accounts and websites, and not self-hosted sites such as http://sustainabilitywithinreach.com/. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different versions of WordPress, with different support forums. See the WordPress.com and WordPress.org support page.
If http://sustainabilitywithinreach.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, then please resubmit your request to the WordPress.org support forums. If you haven’t already done so, you can register here: https://wordpress.org/support/register.php, to use the WordPress.org support forums.

Susan Hardison: Thank you for your suggestion. I followed these instructions and, unlike you, had no success. I appreciate your efforts, however.
Musicdoc1: I was unaware that this was restricted to wordpress.com accounts. Although sustainabiliwithinreach.com is self-hosted, my question pertained to my — localhosted — development version. Perhaps the theme only works on wordpress.com sites. I will resubmit my question as you suggest.

I’m not familiar with the term “localhosted,” and presumed that it referred to a type of self-hosted site. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar at right here to call for staff attention to the topic.

I meant “accounts and sites” hosted by WordPress.com, though there are exceptions to this rule, such as Jetpack connected sites.

re: local host https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Localhost
Rather than display a development site on the web, I am working on it using my computer as the “local host.” Only I can see the changes I am making, or in the case of the Dara theme slider, not making.
As it turns out my site is connected through Jetpack. Nonetheless, I found the comments in WordPress.org to be very helpful.
