Dara theme: unable to display gallery as thumbnail grid
-
Hi there!
I’m trying to display my gallery as a thumbnail grid using the Dara theme, for a page here: https://charleycomehome.wordpress.com/fabric/ but it doesn’t seem to be working. Is this intentional?
I’ve tried using both the ‘visual’ option and entering the shortcode via the HTML tab. In the previews it’s fine, but when I save and view the page it displays as a rectangular grid with no captions, and I’m unable to click on any of the thumbnails to get to the attachment pages.
I’ve switched to the rectangular mosaic for now, but if I’d appreciate the help to get this to display as a thumbnail grid instead.
Thanks!

I’ve tagged this for Staff attention.
Additionally, Dara does not appear to respect the thumbnail column number setting.

Hi @andtherain,
At the moment the image thumbnails link to a page on your site, like this one:
When you click on a thumbnail do you want a slider of images to appear, like this example on the Dara demo site:

Once I know for sure, I’ll be happy to help you out!

Hi @gemmacevans
I think you’ve misunderstood the problem. I was trying to display the gallery using the thumbnail style. (This is the shortcode I’m using now, if it helps:
[gallery id="1487" type="thumbnail" orderby="title" columns="3"]).Instead of displaying the thumbnails and the captions, the theme seems to be displaying it in a rectangular grid with no caption and ignoring the column number setting, as @justjennifer points out, and the images don’t link to anything.
I do want the images to link to the attachment pages.

Hi @andtherain,
Yes you’re right, I did misunderstand :) Thanks for clarifying though.
I’ve been testing the Thumbnail Grid gallery feature and have experienced the same problems you are describing; the column number is ignored, the captions are not displayed underneath the images and the spacing is inconsistent. It looks like you have uncovered a bug in the Dara theme.
I put together a bug report for this issue today. As soon as I have an update on a fix, I will reply to you here.
Come back to me if you have any questions.

Sorry, I accidentally used another account logged in this computer. But yeah, thanks again!

Hi again,
Good news! The column bug has been fixed and the thumbnail grid now reflects the column number in the shortcode. I created a gallery on my own test site and everything is working as expected now.
If you have any problems, it would be a good idea to reinsert the grid into your page.
Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!

I seem to be having the same problem with my site. I want it to display the images in 4 columns, and in the preview it looks great, but the actual page as displayed puts the images into 2 columns. Can this be fixed?

Hi admiralcapn,
Can you try switching the image size to Thumbnail instead of Medium — does that make a difference?
I’ve uploaded a screenshot of the setting here:

Let me know how you get on and I’ll do some testing with the Karuna theme in the meantime.
Many thanks!

I tried using Thumbnail – made no difference in the actual display. Like andtherain, the theme seems to be ignoring the column argument.

Hi again,
It looks like you’ve uncovered a bug — I was able to replicate this issue on my test site. I’ve submitted a bug report and will let you know when I have an update.
Thanks!

Hi admiralcapn,
Good news! This issue has been fixed :) If you visit your License Plates page you’ll see they now sit in 4 columns.
Come back to me if you have any more problems.
