Dark Academia on iphone

I’ve just designed my site using Dark Academia. It looks wonderful. I like the fixed photo on the lead page. On a computer, when I click any of the menu items, the photo remains fixed, but the page changes. Perfect!

However, when looking at my iphone, I see that when I click on a menu item, the selected page loads, but I have to scroll down to see it. The fixed photo remains on the screen. It appears as if nothing has happened. I’m assuming a user would not know to scroll down and will be wondering what happened.

There must be a way to fix this so that when a user clicks on a menu item on an iphone it doesn’t just load, but appears on the present screen. But I don’t know what that fix is. If you can help, that would be great.

  • Hello there!

Thank you for reaching out about the issue you’re experiencing with your Dark Academia-themed site on mobile devices. I understand your concern about the fixed photo potentially causing confusion for mobile users when navigating between pages.

First, let me commend you on your choice of theme. Dark Academia is a beautiful theme with a sophisticated layout perfect for blogs focused on literature, history, and fashion. Its dark, moody aesthetic creates an elegant and immersive reading experience, which is likely why you chose it for your site.

The behavior you’re describing with the fixed background image is likely an intentional design choice to maintain the theme’s aesthetic across devices. However, I understand that it’s causing usability issues on mobile, particularly when users navigate between pages.

To address this, we can consider a few approaches:

    1. Adjust the navigation: You could modify your navigation menu to make it more prominent on mobile devices, which might help users understand that they’ve moved to a new page.
    2. Custom CSS (if your plan allows): If you’re on a plan that allows custom CSS, you could explore adjusting the behavior of the fixed image on mobile devices. For example, you might change the background-attachment property from fixed to scroll for smaller screen sizes.

Unfortunately, as WordPress.com support, we can’t directly modify your theme’s code or provide custom CSS solutions. However, here are some steps you can take:

    • Try customizing your navigation menu and header to make page transitions more evident on mobile.
    • If your plan allows, consider adding custom CSS to adjust the fixed image behavior on mobile devices.
    • Explore WordPress.com’s theme options to see if alternatives match your aesthetic preferences while offering better mobile responsiveness.

Would you like more information on any of these suggestions? Or perhaps you have some ideas you’d like to discuss? I’m here to help you find the best solution to maintain your site’s beautiful Dark Academia aesthetic while ensuring a smooth user experience across all devices.
