  Hi there,
  
  I see that you have the Boardwalk theme. Are you referring to adding the dark filter to the featured images? If so, you can do that through the dashboard by going to Appearance >Customize > Theme Options and checking the box next to Add a dark filter to featured images:

  

  If in you want the actual theme to be dark, you will need to change the background of the theme to a darker color from Appearance >Customize >Colors & Backgrounds.
