You can set the color scheme of your site’s dashboard from your site’s User>Profile tab
https://honeymustardgas.wordpress.com/wp-admin/profile.php
Remember to click the Update Profile button there at the bottom of the page.

I had already tried that. It only changes the color of the menus and sidebar of the dashboard, the area where the main posts are is too white(bright). I reverted to using the browser editor and using a chrome flag to force webpages to use dark mode (color inversion)and just toggle it off when I am done editing my blog.

Thanks for sharing your solution. There are also browser extensions, like Stylus (NAYY) that can do this if you know CSS.
But, yes, I agree that there should be a “Dark Mode” available for the dashboard itself, so I’ve flagged your thread as a “feature request”. No promises that anything will happen, but the request is now out there. :)
