Darkened header image: how to solve it in free plan?
-
I just migrated from Wix and now it seems I must have a premium account if I don’t wish to have a darkened header image? It seems too silly to be true. So, is there an alternative to using CSS, to prevent that thing from happening?
I kind of like the environment and eventually will move to a paid plan but… the idea of doing it for *this* reason irritates me enough that i actually move again.

Hi,
Some themes have what WordPress.com calls “overlays” that require, or at least used to require CSS customization to change or remove. Ixion has tools in Customize that allow modification of the overlay darkness for both the Header Image and Featured Content images. The options are None, Light, Medium, and Dark, in each case.
You’ll find these options in drop-down menus at Customize > Theme Options, under the headings “Header Image Overlay” and “Featured Content Image Overlay.”

Thank you
The problem is that I already found those tools, chose both “none” and “light”, updated and… nothing happened. Remained the same: much darker than the original photo and taking away the point of showing it, which is the beauty of the decorative motifs and light colors.
Cheers

V,
Thanks for the additional information. On inspecting your homepage more closely, and comparing it to those of both the Ixion demo and a test site that I set up to resemble the demo, it became evident that the image at the top of the page on your site doesn’t look the same. I don’t think it’s a Header Image. It looks more like an image in a Cover Block, or possibly in some other block.
If I’m correct, then the following apply: 1.) The overlay darkness options at Theme Options have no effect upon an image inserted into a page or post, and 2.) If that image is inserted into a page within a block, for example a cover block, then you’ll have to use tools available within the block settings in the page editor to modify the overlay darkness.
If it’s an cover block image (aka “cover image”), then see the Opacity subsection of the Block Settings section of the Cover Image support page for relevant information and instructions.

Regarding the header image overlay darkness settings at Theme Options on Ixion, on my test site I found that the tool is working as described in the Theme Options section of the Ixion overview.

Thank you so much!
In fact, you were right. Not a header image.
The opacity option worked just fine.
How could I have missed this option? :-D Now it seems obvious and my question silly. Thank you once again.
Cheers
