Darn Spammers
-
It appears someone has figured out a way to automate your signup procedure and use the newly created blogs as spam link sites.
Donncha’s going to hate me when she sees her inbox. I’ve already counted and reported a dozen.
-
No Surprise and should be a lesson for those crying about having no ability to add JS or other code into their blogs.
Let me guess, some are part of the “fastest growing.”
-
Actually none listed so far. If they were linking to one another, they probably would. So far, they’re just one post filled with garbage text, a link to the site that they’re spamming and another link to a simular site that wouldn’t be.
Like a site to a gambling site and another link to a Wikipedia article about gambling. With garbage text filling in the rest of the article.
Gave up at 20 reports. Looks like someone put a damper on the issue as I don’t see anymore coming across my dashboard.

Cool as it would be to have a woman among the admins, Donncha is a guy. Those crazy Irish names ;)

I was wondering about that. I have a client named Donncha who is female and Russian.

Akismet filtered a lot of spam coming from IP 216.255.176.19. You can blacklist it.
*chuckle* Intercage.com. Been in my server blocks since early 2000. Long time spamhaus and DoS problem.
Thanks,

Neither is Paradox but that doesn’t keep you from being Russian. :)
I know my client, her mailing address, her phone number, etc. I can vouch that she’s Russian.

I’m getting a lot of spam comments from 195.225.177.81 (originator is FINDMOREPILLS.COM), would it be possible to blacklist the IP for all of wordpress.com?

I don’t know if this is rleated in any way but since I started having my comments emailed to me this week, no more spam goes to my inbox and it now goes to my bulk folder. :)
-
I don’t think I had spam yet. But then yet again I only had the blog for about two weeks.

“What be this – this – spam?” The disabled Count Dark Side asked the Poker? “This spam pot – who me fill it? And when all cards have been played, and when this life is over, will all our pots be spam monsters?”
-
I had to throw the word “hotmails” into my moderator filter, because one out of every half-dozen or so gets past Akismet. They always leave those “Great job.” comments that link to sales sites. I hesitate to blacklist the word though as I guess that it could come up in a valid comment.
-
5 bucks says a good chunk of us use hotmail addresses though around here. I don’t myself but I bet there is.
Hmm, I wonder if I can get a staff member to do a database search for me. Now I’m curious.
-
looking for information and found it at this great site.
…on an empty site.
Gotta love spammers somedays. :)
-
Not “hotmail”. It’s “hotmails” with an “s” at the end. It’s almost always somewhere in their posts either in the email address or the domain name.
