Dashboard Missing in FireFox 68.7.0esr (64-bit) on FreeBSD 12
-
Hi,
I logged in to WordPress and clicked ‘My Site’. I see very few entries in the left navigation panel. I am using FireFox 68.7.0esr (64-bit) on FreeBSD 12.
When I log in to WordPress and click ‘My Site’ using Version 76.0.3809.132 (Official Build) (64-bit) on FreeBSD 12, I see the tools that I am used to seeing.
I believe this is some sort of browser compatibility issue. Does anyone know what changed? If so, what? What is it in FireFox 68.7.0esr that is no longer supported?
Thank You

Hi,
could you please share screenshots of what you see on your end?
You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/), or follow the instructions described here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/. -
Hi,
I left out ‘Chromium’ as the second browser in my first post.
I have added a screenshot for each browser.FireFox 68.7.0esr (64-bit) on FreeBSD 12:

Chromium 76.0.3809.132 (Official Build) (64-bit) on FreeBSD 12:

If I have not made a mistake with the images the FireFox image should show a blank navigation area and blank main area. The Chromium image should show a fully populated navigation area and some stuff in the main area.
I would like to say that FireFox was OK two or three weeks ago. However, while I had the page open in one of the tabs I keep open I do not believe I actually looked at it. I do not know when the last time I saw a normal UI in FireFox was.
Thank You

Are you using any extensions on Firefox?
You shouldn’t have any issues displaying your account, in fact, I’m also using Firefox and all loads correctly on my end. I’m not sure what are the differences in the browser version for FreeBSD 12 though. Is the version you’re using the newest one compatible with FreeBSD? -
Hello,
I am using two extensions. One for tabs and one for sessions.
This screenshot shows the list:

I have been using both of them since last year without a problem. I am fairly sure that when I last looked at the WordPress tab in FireFox, it was normal.
The version of FireFox that I am using is not the newest FireFox available for FreeBSD.
The version I am using is the newest Extended Support Release version of FireFox available for FreeBSD.

Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) is an official version of Firefox developed for large organizations like universities and businesses that need to set up and maintain Firefox on a large scale. Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.
support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-to-firefox-extended-support-release-esrMy thought is that the WordPress site now uses some sort of ‘flashy & new’ technology or tool for rendering / interfacing with the backend systems.
Thank You

Hello,
Because you asked, I did.
Here are the extensions marked as disabled:

The result image shows an empty navigation area and an empty main / content area.
As a side note, after clicking on ‘Reader’, a message is disabled stating that there was a problem accessing reader subscriptions.

I am really trying to find out what functionality is required that FireFox ESR does not support.
Thank you

Honestly most of the sidebar is handled with JavaScript. Are you seeing any errors in the console?
Also — I see the sidebar is blank, but I’d be surprised if the rest of the interface were loading without JS though too. If you go to https://wordpress.com/me/account for example, does anything come up?

Hello,
Thank you for the continued assistance.
When I attempt to access wordpress.com/me/account some elements are displayed in the main content area as can be seen in https://snipboard.io/Aw3ECx.jpg. The console displays a warning and server access failures.
When I attempt to access wordpress.com/home nothing is displayed as previously shown and the console log displays a warning and server access failure messages.

Hello,
First, I want to thank you for your support.
Second, I want to say that I feel like an idiot.
When I saw the access failures, I thought maybe a bad user token was somewhere.
I logged out, went to a few random WP pages, including the signup page, then logged in.After logging in, I see what I am supposed to see.
Thank you
-
Ah, you’re definitely not an idiot at all. I’m glad you were able to figure that out from the console messages — certainly not everyone can do that.
And we’ll be sure to recommend that next time someone’s having this issue.
Cheers!
