dashboard not same
-
i am trying to follow a tutorial from tyler moore but why does his dashboard look so different from mine, i have no jetpack, don’t see plugins etc. I know his version is older (3.9.2) than mine (4.0.1) but such difference makes it very difficult for me to follow the tutorial! Also the name Blog is very irritating, i want to make a business website not a blog!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
It sounds like you’re watching a tutorial for a self hosted WordPress site. There are some slight differences between the dashboard here at WordPress.com and what you’d see if you installed the free open source software available at WordPress.org.
You may want to stick to our tutorials, since they’ll be tailored for WordPress.com, or look for some WordPress.com specific tutorials from other sources.
We do have a guide for setting up a professional website here at WordPress.com:

If you tell me what you’re trying to do, I can help you out!

Hi shawnajroberts, thank you for your reply. I make it short telling you about my concern. Last year i tried out Wix but i couldn’t get around with it and when i watched some wordpress tutorials i felt i have to change to make it work. Unfortunately i used the domain i established with Wix but once i started with hostgate and then after the quickstart with wordpress, everytime i taped my domain name i landed at wix place! After that with the help of hostgate i changed the primary domain name but when i arrived at quickinstall it wouldn’t work! there was an error saying all the files for quickinstall exist already, so I could start with wordpress through hostgate. I had to login separately but then the window did not look like the one i expected by entering from hostgate and i had difficulties to follow the tutorial because Tyler Moore used an older version. However i found a tutorial which also uses the same wordpress version but there are still differences. I cannot find the plugins or jetpack on the sidebar and everything seems to be a bit different which again makes it difficult to follow the tutorial!

how can i start with the same wordpress program like the one others start from hostgator? if i login separately i there are many items i cannot use. Add a theme from kadencethemes.com and god knows how what else still comes up i cannot use!

It sounds like you’ve got a lot going on! Here at WordPress.com we don’t allow users to upload plugins or themes. And we actually created Jetpack, so its already part of your site! Here’s some info about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:
If you want to see the exact same dashboard that the tutorial has, you’ll need to download and install the exact same version they’re using in the tutorial.
But if you just want to be on a self hosted site so you can install themes and plugins, you’ll first want to choose a webhost. We have some suggested ones here:
Once you do that, you’ll want to install WordPress. If you need any help with that site, you’ll need to head over to the WordPress.org forums:
Let me know if you have more questions!

Dear shawnajroberts, thank you for your rapid answer. Please note that i have my wordpress downloaded when i was still in hostgate so basically i think it should be same except the domain “ithastobegac” was originally installed at wix. the second domain i paid for is “itmustbegac” and i wanted to install it in Mac not windows but there was the error message that all the files were already found and therefore no installation was carried out. is it not possible from your side to install the correct wordpress like the one I see on wp Sculptor’s tutorial “how to make a custom website and Blog with WP. I have made some screenshots but i cannot see here that i can upload them to show what i mean. i dearly hope that you can help me. Roger

Hi Roger!
There’s no way for you to change the Dashboard here at WordPress.com. We always run the latest version of WordPress. If you’d like me to see those screenshots, you can upload them to your Media Library:
https://rogermoser.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
Basically, you need to decide whether you want to keep using WordPress.com as your host, or move back to a self hosted solution like Hostgator. As I mentioned before, we don’t allow users to install their own themes or plugins here at WordPress.com. However, with a self hosted site, you will be able to do that.
As for the domain, I can help you with that once we sort out your hosting/dashboard issue, okay?
