another problem — don’t want any social media stuff on my site, ’cause it’s for small school children. got rid of all the social tabs at the bottom of each page in my settings/sharing section, but on my front page there’s still a box for leaving a reply. How do I get rid of that?

All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

got another question for you — can I change my website’s address? I want to keep all the content, but change the domain. Is this possible?
-
Yes. However I cannot tell if you mean changing a .wordpress.com blog address, or purchasing your own domain so I’ll post instructions for both.
Changing a .wordpress.com blog address
You cannot edit any URL. If you want to change the .wordpress.com blog address ie. the URL starting with http:// to another .wordpress.com blog address, then you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to do that, and the URL you desire must be available. If so then you can change the URL by using this guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/Purchasing a domain mapping upgrade:
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
All About Domains http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here if you already own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
