dashboard won't load
-
Hi! I recently switched to the superhero theme, and since then my blog has been REALLY glitchy. Every time I try to go to the dashboard I get a “failed to open page” message (everything else internet-related is working great, just not my wordpress site) and if I reload a few times it eventually gets there but not always. I want to do add menus, and I thought I did, but they don’t show up – not that I can check because I can’t do anything :-/ Feeling frustrated. Help? Thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Those issues are not likely to be theme related. In order to help you we need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. Please post a screenshot. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it. -
Hi @plantedinthesky,
As Timethief explained, this is likely not an issue with the theme. Your site is loading correctly on my side.
Timethief provided some excellent instructions below. Can you give those a try and let us know if you’re still having trouble? Also, if you try another browser, please let us know if that clears up the issue.
As for menus, instructions for adding a new one can be found here:

Thanks for your advice, I did try clearing the cache and resetting safari (I have an macbook air, using safari version 7), but it hasn’t made any difference. Some photos just never load (this happened when I looked at the site using google chrome, too – there is just a string of numbers and a question mark where the image should be), I can’t make new posts, and when (after much refreshing and re-trying) I do eventually get to the “Add new post” page the text is white-on-white when I type with no apparent way to change it. That’s a new one.
A lot of the things you suggested seem like things that should have always been a problem, if they are the problem now… I mean, it worked perfectly until I changed the theme, and that’s the only thing I’ve changed. Even on my dashboard I get glitches like a question mark where the site stats image should be, for example. That never happened before.
What exactly should I send you a screenshot of? Usually the only error message I get is that of the browser telling me it failed to load the page.
Thanks for helping, really appreciate it. -
Hi there,
Do you have any browser plugins enabled on either Safari or Chrome? If so, could you disable them and see if that helps to speed up the load time and fix the image display issue?
