Data migration

  Hi there
  I’ve constructed a website (bsnbiobanks.org) in WordPress, but need the following features:
  1. a searchable table
  2. users to be able to interact regarding a proposed workshop eg. RSVP yes/no, type dietary preferences, whether they’ll be bringing a poster yes/no
  3. upload pdfs/Word docs
  So I think that I need to migrate the data to a webhost. I see that I can pay for a data migration to a nominated host eg. Bluehost.
  But I am not sure then whether the Blue host site will be as user friendly as WordPress.
  Eg. will the theme still look like my selected theme in WordPress (2011)? Or do I need to design my own theme once I leave WordPress? Can I alter the font easily?
  Do I need to know how to write code to be able to add my table and upload my documents?

  Hi there,

  I’m not sure what you mean by a searchable table, but you can add tables manually via HTML as seen here:

  http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp

  If you search the page the terms will show up.

  2. users to be able to interact regarding a proposed workshop eg. RSVP yes/no, type dietary preferences, whether they’ll be bringing a poster yes/no

  This might be the most difficult on WordPress.com. We do have a Tlk.io chat widget available that might work:

  You would have to create channels by going to http://tlk.io.

  3. upload pdfs/Word docs

  This would be possible. You can add download links, but you wouldn’t be able to embed them. If you want to embed docs, Google Docs might be the best option:

  However, if those options aren’t for you, it would be best to move to WordPress.org.

  But I am not sure then whether the Blue host site will be as user friendly as WordPress.

  I honestly can’t speak for their support as I haven’t contacted their support team. I hear Hostgator is pretty good as well.

  Yes, you can download the Twenty Eleven theme for WordPress here:

  You can change the font via CSS if not, it’d be similar to what you have in WordPress.com.

  WordPress.org might have plugins that would make it easy to add tables. I did a quick search for table plugins and found this:
