  does WordPress process against data in a database or does it maintain its own database

  I am starting to research membership relationship management tools that integrate well with WordPress. I’ve never used WordPress, so rather than assume that it accesses (read/write) data in a commercially available DBMS, I thought I would just check that it doesn’t have its own proprietary data store.
