database update error message

  Hi there,
  I help manage a site that is having an error message that does not seem to be resolved easily. When we log in to the admin site, a message comes up that says the database needs to be updated. When we hit the “update now” button, the screen changes to a blank screen and freezes there, no update seems to occur and we cannot access the admin site to make any changes to the webpage. The site is: http://www.goodeggnjny.org/ (please note this is different than the account that is being sent from, capeislandrunners.com, my personal site). Thanks for any help!

  Hi there,

  This support forum is for sites running on WordPress.com. http://www.goodeggnjny.org/ is a self-hosted site running the WordPress.org software.

  The best place for documentation and support on self-hosted sites is WordPress.org:

  Since I don’t have access to your sites files like I do with WordPress.com sites, we’re not of as much help here. But it does sound like a problem very similar to this one:

  Which was caused by a theme interfering with the most recent version of WordPress. If switching to a default theme (like Twenty Ten, or Twenty Fourteen) over FTP does not help as it did in that situation, I’d recommend starting a new post in the How-to and Troubleshooting forum at WordPress.org:
