Database/files phpmyadmin and cpanel etc…

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi – I bought a WP premium site and a theme from Themeforest (restaurant/spa theme) with a few other plugins like Booking System Pro from DOTonPAPER and a url http://www.rarepeutic.com from Go Daddy.

The theme was modified for me on a third party server to the point that it is now ready to go live. The developer is asking me where do I want the database and files – here is the rest of the conversation:

[4:58:31 PM] Benjamin Ibarra: Where do you want the database and files, and what will the URL be(clarifying)

[4:59:29 PM] Duncan Sanderson: I’m not sure how we would handle that?

[5:00:26 PM] Duncan Sanderson: you talking in terms of data from the appointments app?
    [5:12:00 PM] Benjamin Ibarra: no

[5:12:14 PM] Benjamin Ibarra: basically, ftp we upload files on client server but we want phpmyadmin for database cpanel all in one

[5:12:29 PM] Benjamin Ibarra: does any of that sound familiar

[5:13:53 PM] Duncan Sanderson: no sorry i will ask some questions from wp and get back to u

[5:14:51 PM] Benjamin Ibarra: Yeah that would be best thank you

What does my developer need to do – please help?

    Duncan

    Hi Duncan,

Just to clarify, you’re looking to setup the site rarepeutic.com at WordPress.com (under the site rarepeutic.wordpress.com). Is that correct?

If so, I’m afraid you will not be able to upload any third-party themes or plugins. We don’t provide FTP access either. Those aspects are only available to self-hosted sites using WordPress.org software. The difference is broken down a bit more here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Moving forward, we have two main options:

    1. If you do not need the theme and custom plugins, I can help you set your site up at WordPress.com. You would need to use a theme from the list here:

    http://themes.wordpress.com

    2. If you do need the plugin and third-party theme, you would need to move to a self-hosted site. You can setup hosting at GoDaddy for example, and host your site through them.

Let me know how you would like to move forward!

Thank you so much – I get it now – have organised third party hosting with GoDaddy with a pretty good deal

    Really grateful

Great Duncan! If you’re going to move forward with the third-party hosting, would you like me to remove the Premium bundle from rarepeutic.wordpress.com and refund your purchase? If you’re using a self-hosted site, that bundle will not be necessary.

Dude – I would be so grateful – I was incorrectly advised by the previous developer who I have since flicked off – that is such a nice gesture mate – thanks so much – I could do with it right now

    Warmest Regards

    Duncan

Done! The funds should be available on your account within the next 3-4 business days. You can see a receipt for the refund here:
