Date and time all messed up….please help!

Erm, I just realized (very noobish I know) that my date and time are several hours ahead of what they should be, probably because I made teh account in a hurry and didn’t bother adjusting to the correct date and time.

So I went into options, and in the respective Date and Time Settings boxes, I put in the current date (7/29) and the current time (8:42 p.m.), I didn’t really understand what it meant by the outputs, so whatever.

But when I did that, the date and time on my blog was all distorted, random letters and numbers all mixed up..nothing had been solved, so I went back and deleted everything from those two boxes altogether, now my blog posts don’t show date or time at all, what am I supposed to do?

Oh, and I tried reading the documentation, but I just didn’t understand it, sorry, really not very familliar with PHP at all.

-> dashboard -> options -> scroll down under General Options -> date and time

Take note of the existing time in the template for which for California. Adjust these according to the date and time where you live.

    Click “update options”

Yes, I tried that, I put “Saturday, July 29, 2006” in the Date box and I got this as the output:

    Output: tham31uSun, 30 Jul 2006 02:32:44 +000030am06, JuSunday06 29, 2006

And I put 9:32 p.m. as the time and I got this as the output:

    Output: 9:32 p.07.

    Very confused indeed. :D

Erm, now I’m getting really irritated, I managed to get the date to “july 29, 2006” in options, but now EVERY post, even my first one that was certainly not posted today, says July 29….head hurts…

And I’m still incapable of setting the time, whenever I try to put “p.m.” It gives me some variation of p07.

Yeah it took me a while too to figure it out but just play around with it with + hours and – hours until you get it the way you want. :)

All times are in GMT. So you need to work out the time GMT + or – number of hours for your time zone to get the local time for where you live. (GMT = Greenwich Mean Time). For example Toronto and New York would be GMT-5, Vancouver Canada is GMT-8. People generally know their time zone and GMT isn’t usually relevant to many unless they are travelling. It is relevant on WP however since times are in GMT.

You then go into Options from the Dashboard and where it says “time should differ by” insert the number of hours + or – GMT. Then click update to save your setting.Once you’ve set this the dates should also come into synch. Hope this helps.

K, cool, I’ll try that. However, I’m still confused, what are those Date and Time boxes (the ones with output under them) for then?

  • Unknown's avatar

K, I did what you said, for some reason my latest post still says July 30 when its still 5 minutes till and my date now says July 29th, but whatever.

To be honest, this is all seems way more confusing than it should be, there should be a way to set all this up easily before you even make your blog. Just a suggestion.

i can’t fix it eather!!i can’t uderstand exactly what to do.
Its funny that its more difficult to change the time, than to make a new blog!

    @salerosa
I’m not clear whether or not you know the timezone you live in and whether or not you are entering the correct information under date and time on this page -> Options
Here’s a link to assist you with that determination http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

If you are indeed inputting the correct information and then clicking “Update Options” and the blog dates and times are not changing accordingly then you need staff help. You can use this link during support hours to report this problem and get help with it http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

    Fixed.

It was the time / date formatting.
The link under the time / date in Options needs clicking. Just entering a date / time will cause much funkiness.
