Date and time not in sync

I have set my time for -6 central time US, but the published dates still are on GMT, or 6 hours ahead, so my date changes to the next day at 6 PM. Any suggestions? Thanks!

WordPress.com runs on UTC. You can’t change it. Your day is still 24 hours long, whether it changes at 6 p.m. your time or midnight.

Well then what is the purpose of changing the date at all? Why is it allowed if the system is just going to ignore your change and continue in UTC? Doesn’t make sense. No. I think if I have changed my time correctly, and the info next to the time change capsule says that I have done it correctly, then the change should be reflected in my Published Time and Date. No? If not, then please explain why we CAN change to our local time, since, under your theory, the change is irrelevant. What would be the purpose then?
