De-registering domain
-
Hi!
I’m a silly goose and I hurried a little bit. So I signed up with wordpress.com, registered a domain (alexkaiserauthor.com) and only then realized the plans offered by your company don’t fit into what I need. So I canceled my subscription with your company and tried to register the domain with another host, but the domain is still marked as registered with you.
Is it possible that you de-register that domain, so it is free again?
Someone had a similar issue: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/how-long-does-it-take-for-wordpresscom-to-release-a-domain-i-cancelled/
Cheers and sorry for the trouble,
Alex K(similar issue someone else had : https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/how-long-does-it-take-for-wordpresscom-to-release-a-domain-i-cancelled/ )

It looks like you’ve canceled the domain name, meaning you no longer own it.
Please let us know which of these options works best for you:
Wait: You can wait about five days for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you can purchase it again with another provider.
Recover the Domain Here: Since you did not receive a refund, as the cancellation was past the 96-hour refund window, we can recover it to your account here. Due to ICANN regulations (which all domain registrars must abide by), you cannot transfer the domain for 60 days, but you can still direct the domain to any hosting provider by changing its name servers.

Hi Alex,
I’m afraid my colleague was mistaken. A domain is only released after day 5 if you cancel it within 5 days of registration. You registered this domain on 25 November and cancelled it on 7 December, so much more than 5 days. So this domain will only be released once it passes through redemption at the registry, which will take at least 30 days.
So I’ve gone ahead and restored that domain to your account. You should now see it listed again under My Sites.
For now you can point it to another hosting provider by updating either the name servers or the A records, and by 25 January you’ll be able to transfer it away from us.

Ah, I hurried with getting a domain and now I pay for unfinished research. Right, learning happened. ‘:D
Thanks for restoring the domain, the information and the links.
