De-Spamming Older Comments

  I accidentally marked some legitimate comments as spam today. Unfortunately, it seems as though Akismet can’t retrieve them, because they were originally posted more than two weeks days ago (even though they were only marked as spam TODAY).

  This seems like such an obviously wrongheaded system that I’m assuming I must be missing something.

  Is there actually a way to de-spam comments that were originally posted more than two weeks ago?

  And if not, why? Spammers often target older posts with blizzards of spam, so it seems pretty obvious that the two-week holding period should begin when the user marks an e-mail as spam. Going by the original posting date is inevitably going to lead to people deleting messages they want, it seems to me.
