Deactivating Built-In Plugins

  How do I deactivate built-in plugins? I am having trouble import/exporting my blogs to another platform because the plug-ins are activated.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  In short, no, the plugins can not be deactivated.

  Are you trying to move your content over to another WordPress site?
  And what sort of issues are you experiencing?

  Hello,

  I’m trying to move my content to Squarespace. Some of my blogs have kept their photos with all the gallery settings kept the same, but most of the other blogpost do not have any of the photos!

  It was recommended for me to deactivate all my plugins before exporting out of WordPress and then importing into Squarespace, but I cannot turn off the built-in plugins on the WordPress side.

  Yes, that’s a tricky one.

  Squarespace is likely referring to a self-hosted site running the WordPress.org version of WordPress. In this case, you would be able to deactivate plugins. But not on a WordPress.com site. The two are different.

  As far as I know, there is no way to bulk download/export your images from a WordPress.com site. You would need to do that manually.

  But it may help to let Squarespace know that you are migrating from a WordPress.com blog.

  Images displayed in WordPress’ Gallery feature are especially tricky, I’m afraid, even when exporting and importing from/to a WordPress site! This is because each media upload receives a unique ID number. When importing to a different WP site or platform, like Squarespace, this ID number may change.

  It might help to make doubly certain that the images are attached to the post/page they are displayed in before you create your export file. Here’s more on attaching images: https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/unattached-files/
