Dead Blog removal possible on a domain I want for my blog?
-
Can wordpress remove a site hosted by them which is no longer in use so that I can use the domain on my wordpress blog? The domain in question is captainheresy.wordpress.com. I started my blog today (captainheresydotcom.wordpress.com). For obvious reasons, I’d like to use captainheresy.wordpress.com. When I checked the domain in question, I found that it is well over a year old and there is no content on the domain. Looks like someone registered it as a free domain with wordpress and then never did anything with it. I would like wordpress.com to remove this domain and assign it to me, since it is obviously dead. Can this be done? If not, how might I get this domain? Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No this cannot be done.
There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.
if you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Thanks so much for your reply. There’s no contact page on the blog. However, I was able to leave a comment on the About Page. Hopefully, the email account isn’t dead as well and the registrant will contact me, shortly, though I’m not counting on it. It’s really too bad that WordPress doesn’t have an expiration date on dead blogs, meaning any blog which was registered but then never populated with content.

If you are serious about blogging over the long term, then buy your own domain via a domain mapping upgrade. It doesn’t matter what the underlying .wordpress.com subdomain URL is if you do.
