Debit card it linked to a clients website

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey guys,

I have been finalising the details of a site which I’m building for a friend. It’s all done but I have noticed that my debit card is listed as the main card to use for transactions for the site. I went to update this to my friend’s card details instead and it seems that I have somehow connected my friend’s site to my WordPress.com account and her website is listed there.

I also noticed that there are a few other dead sites listed on WordPress.com and ironically, my current sites, that do matter, are not listed there at all.

At this point, I wanted to ask if anyone might know how I can remove my debit card number from my friend’s website? It’s a WooCommerce site and she may well want to use WooCommerce to print up shipping labels. When that happens, my debit card will be charged instead of hers.

Also, if anyone knows how I could remove the old dead sites from WordPress.com and add my current sites, that would be awesome!

    Thank you so much,

    Kate

  • Hello Kate,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

I went to update this to my friend’s card details instead and it seems that I have somehow connected my friend’s site to my WordPress.com account and her website is listed there.

Can you tell me the URL of your friends site please?

I also noticed that there are a few other dead sites listed on WordPress.com and ironically, my current sites, that do matter, are not listed there at all.

Can you tell me the URL of these site also please?

At this point, I wanted to ask if anyone might know how I can remove my debit card number from my friend’s website?

Once we know the URL of the above, we can look to unpick the above and determine next steps.

    Many thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for coming back to me.

Sure, no problem. My friend’s URL is mamadeeproducts.co.uk

  • Hi there,

Thank you for sharing the links! So, both the dead links and your friend’s site are connected to your WordPress.com account via the Jetpack Plugin.

Our support page provides a guide on how to remove self-hosted WordPress sites from your WordPress.com account:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/disconnect-jetpack-sites/

However, If you have any questions or trouble with the disconnection or if you prefer for us to disconnect those sites from your account on our end, let me know, and I’d be happy to assist.

    Thanks!

    Hey Darnell,

Thank you so much for coming back to me.

I really appreciate you guys helping out so much!

Thank you for the link. I had a look and I’m just a bit worried about the disconnection. Mainly when the plugins fail.

If I disconnect Jetpack and the plugins fail, which I understand they will, is it just a case of then connecting the site to my friend’s new wordpress.com account and the plugins should then work as normal and the site doesn’t break?

In WordPress.com, in the section called Use a domain I own, should I select connect a domain or transfer a domain?

If I connect the domain, there is a fee to pay. I’ve never had to pay a fee for this myself so not this is the right option for my friend.

If I transfer the domain, it sounds like I have to speak to the hosting provider and actually organise a full domain transfer.

Neither option looks like the correct one to simply be able to connect JetPack. Am I missing something?

    Thank you so much again,

    Kate

Although we can help with simple disconnections (of sites that are no longer online for example) this is the support forum for WordPress.com sites, so we are not the best source of help in this case.

With this in mind please reach out to our Jetpack support team at this link and they should be able to help with your specific questions about reconnecting to another account.

In some instances, reconnection issues like this do need to assist, and they would be in the best position to help you with that.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
