Default date format set not showing on site

Please forgive me if this has already been answered, but I couldn’t find an adequate or satisfying answer when I searched the forum.

It’s to do with the date format used in the themes. I’m currently using the “Contempt 1.0” theme, and I’ve tried to set the “default date format” within the Options panel to:

    Default date format: l, j F Y
    Output: Saturday, 8 April 2006

But in the actual site the date shown is:

    February 6th, 2006

Which isn’t what I set. I’ve tried with a number of themes, but they are all the same. Do the themes have some kind of hard-coded override within their PHP files?

    Thanks.

Yes, some themes override the display of the date statements. (Andreas04 does as well as hide the dates in IE) You may want to send in a Feedback as between you and me, I would call this a Theme bug.

I know it sounds silly but make sure you are clicking on the “Update Options” button and getting back a “Options saved” message. We have had some people miss that step so I point it out. :)

    Sorry, I couldn’t help more.

I am an American, writing in French. I have set the date format options to the following, and the option page indicates how it will be formatted:

    Format de date par défaut : l, j F Y
    Visualisation : Vendredi, 19 janvier 2007
    Format d’heure par défaut : G:i
    Visualisation : 14:22

However, all I get at the end of an article is: janvier 19th, 2007. You just don’t say “19th” in French; the day precedes the month and the month precedes the year; and I would prefer to be able to format the time as 14h22 rather than 14:22, but the time does not even show.

“Add comment” should be “Afficher un commentaire”. “Leave a comment” should be “Ajouter un commentaire”. Etc. Etc. Actually, I have been blogging just less than a month. I started with Blogger and switched to WordPress earlier this week, copying everything over manually, because WP is generally far more flexible (I’ve got a great header!) and lightyears faster (I was completely frustrated waiting all day long to see my post in Blogger). So I am greatly pleased with general appearance and functionality of WP.

BUT, WP could easily follow the Blogger format for French because generally, they do get that right. Most French readers, like anyone else, want to see their language written correctly. And since the date is posted, and since there is a date format option, the date should be posted correctly. Can we get some help with this? Thanks.

Please send a feedback in to staff including the information provided above. It’s Ryan that’s the one working on the languages projects and I’m sure he would be glad to accept your assistance.

Agree with TT on the feedback. As stated up above, the theme designed probably hard coded the date output.

To not open a new topic I will ask my question here, because it is the same problem.
In my options I have set the output “l, j. F Y” which is show in the output as “Montag, 22. Januar 2007” (as I want it in German which is alright). But on my blog the date is only shown as “Januar 21st, 2007”

What went wrong, and oh, the time is not shown at all.

    Thanks for your help!
