CSS editing is theme specific editing. Hopefully, this will help:
If I switch themes, will my fonts and CSS carry over to the new theme?
Fonts will carry over, but CSS will not. CSS is theme-specific and CSS written for one theme is unlikely to make sense for another. You can always access CSS you saved in the past via the CSS Revisions link at the top right of the Appearance → Customize → CSS panel. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions -
See here for the names of the default fonts:

Ah yes, timethief – I had discovered about the CSS, and when switching themes I delete everything therein.
But them fonts, dernit! – am most interested to learn that even you don’t have a ready answer. :-
No matter: having the list of default fonts achieves the same end – for which I thank you very much! -
GOLDARN! – Pi doesn’t list Silesia. Must’ve written his list too early for it.
Any further suggestions here …? (please!) -
HOORAY!
Triffic, timethief! – mille grazie!
That looks like a list for the automattic themes, so there are probably other lists to be searched should I come across this problem again (as it’s likely all newer themes will not be Pi-eyed). :-) -
Halleluia! I finally made someone happy today and so far I haven’t made any idiotic mistakes. I multitask from my business when I answer questions here so have split attention issues and that means I make mistakes.

It’s overcast and cool in the Canadian Gulf Islands but I’m indoors so it doesn’t matter.

Awful lot a golf courses there, timethief! – are they all for you to practise your putting? [grin]
Sorry: wasting your time.
I go now. -
I’m an artist, dancer, researcher, writer and a whole lot more besides. I tried golf years ago. It was expensive and it bored me. :D

Go to Appearance > Customize > Fonts and click the “X” just to the right of each font name to revert to the theme’s default fonts.

Good GRIEF!!! – it can be DONE?
Heavens be praised!
And also you, for telling me.
Thank-you a squillion times! -
