default Link category issue — only default Link category will work

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve somehow changed a setting so that I now have a default Link category on my blogroll, so that now every new link I add takes the default Link’s category and I cannot use any other Link category. Whatever category I check for a new link will not “stick” and the default category always overrides my choice.

Would anyone know how to reset things so there is no default category for my Links?

    Thanks much for any advice.

The default link category is the one a new link will automatically be added to if you forget to add it to one yourself. So you cannot “reset things so there is no default category”: you can only select which one it is, in Settings>Writing.

Thanks, panaghiotisadam. The way you describe it is the way things were working until yesterday. However, I just ran another test, adding a link to a law blog and checking off Law Sites as the category, and the default category, Baseball Sites, waa not checked. When I “saved” the new law blog, it shows up under Baseball Sites. I then tried to re-edit, but the Law Sites category will never stick, only the default Baseball Sites category — even though I check the Law Sites and not the BB Sites.

In any event, your answer confirms for me that something is not working as it should. There really seems to be some technical glitch that’s taken effect. I think I will need to contact Word Press about this one. It’ odd, because up until yesterday, this worked in the manner you have described.

    Thanks again for helping.

    I’m having this same issue. I’ve done a little testing . . .

    Here’s the scenario:

    1. Default Link Category setting is “Check This Out”.
    2. I create a new link and click on the radio button for “Planner” (different category than default).
    3. New link is created, but category is “Check This Out.”
    4. I go back to edit the link and change the category to “Planner” and save.
    5. Link stays at “Check This Out”.
    6. I go into Default Settings and change the default category to “Planner”.
    7. I go back to the Links area and delete the link I created.
    8. I recreate the link and select “Check This Out” and save.
    9. New link is created with category of “Planner.”

Apparently the default category is over-riding the radio button options selected when creating new links.
