Default preview of twenty sixteen does not look like the picture before preview
-
I am looking for a new theme. I like the twenty sixteen theme but when I click on preview to see it in full page, the picture it shows then is different from the one I clicked on. Which one is the twenty sixteen theme? I don’t care for the setup of the one that appears after “preview” is selected. How do I get the theme in the original picture?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can view the demo site for Twenty Sixteen and get an idea for what’s possible with the theme here:
https://twentysixteendemo.wordpress.com/
It’s worth noting that themes do take a little time to get set up and may therefore look a little different to the demo in the preview/when it’s first activated. As you start to add content to your site and adjust its settings, you’ll start to see it come more to live and look more like the demo site.

Thank you1 The issue resolved itself. I looked at it again this morning and the pictures are the same now before and after clicking on preview. I have a related issued though. I have a blog that I barely remember how I set up (not a tech person!). I do remember clicking on activate to activate the theme and went from there. I want to start another blog without interfering with the first one. I am not sure how to start. I have another domain name already. Do I go back to bluehost and set it up from there? On the twenty sixteen theme instead of saying activate, it says download. I clicked on download but I have no idea what to do with all of the “coded?” pages it sent me. How can I just activate the theme and make my blog on it. Will it all be apparent if I go to bluehost and start? I am lost.

Do you plan to build your site here at WordPress.com or with Bluehost? The steps are different depending on which host you choose.
If you choose to host your site with Bluehost then your site will be running on the free software available at WordPress.org and, therefore, separate to WordPress.com.
The differences between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and WordPress.org) is a common and understandable point of confusion. I recommend the following guide, which gives a good overview on the two, if you’re unsure:
As a first step, take a look through the above guide so that you have a clear understanding of the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
If you then decide you’d like to get set up with WordPress.com then you can follow the screen prompts from the following page to create your new site:
If you decide to go with WordPress.org then Bluehost’s support team will be in the best position to help you out:
Let me know if the above information’s clear. I’m happy to help with any questions, too.

Thank you! I am a little confused but I know I got my domain from bluehost then I thought I set up my first blog with wordpress.com since it was free. I thought you had to pay for wordpress.org.

I read this:
WordPress.com
Focus on your beautiful content, and let us handle the rest. WordPress.org
Get your hands dirty, and host your website yourself. And made a quick decision! I will do WordPress.com That sound’s like the easiest way. And, I need easy!! And, .com is the free one too! So I don’t need to go thru bluehost right?

I am confused. I clicked on wordpress.com for a free website and they first thing they did was want to charge ne $13 for mapping? what does that mean. For my first blog it was completely free except for buying the domain name. This time I already have a domain name. What isthe charge for mapping?

Hi there,
To clarify a few points around the differences between WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org:
- The software available at WordPress.org is completely free and open source. Although you don’t have to pay for the software, there are costs associated with hosting your site through companies like Bluehost.
- If you choose to host your site with WordPress.com then you don’t have to pay Bluehost for hosting.
- WordPress.com does have a free plan. Under this free plan, your site is available at a free “WordPress.com” site address.
- If you’d like to cover up the “WordPress.com” from your free site address then you can either register a domain directly through us or, if you’ve already registered a domain with Bluehost, map it to your WordPress.com site.
Can you clarify what domain you’re trying to use with your site? Is it one that you’ve already registered with Bluehost?
Thanks!

For my current blog woundedjoy.com, the domain name was bought thru bluehost and then went to wordpress to set up my blog. I chose a free theme and the domain name cost me $2.95 and that was the total amount spent on the blog. I had a terrible time finding a domain name that I liked which wasn’t taken. Because of that difficulty, I decided to go ahead and buy a couple of other domain names before they got taken in case I ran out of blogging ideas for woundjoy or I just tired of it. So I went back to Bluehost and purchased 2 more domain names forhisdelight (his means God!), and my own name jackiepippin. They cost 11.99 each. But I wasn’t sure which one I would want to use so I bought both. I now want to start a blog using my name. Since I already have the domain name, I am unsure how to proceed. Your direction in your last reply to me showed me where to go on worpress which is exactly what I wanted. However since my first blog was free on wordpress, I am confused that they now want to charge me a mapping cost. I will pay it if necessary, no problem. I just want to be sure I am taking the right path for a free .com blog. Hope I didn’t ramble too much and hope this answers your question. Thanks, Jackie

You can absolutely have a free site if you’re happy with a free “WordPress.com” site address. If you’d like to replace the free site address with one of your own custom domains then a cost is involved.

The link you gave me seems to be correct but WP is charging me to map the domain name I want to use and I cannot skip that page to continue setting up my blog. This is using the link for the free .com address you gave me. Should I pay the mapping charge or should the WP .com (jackiepippin.com) be completely free? I am still confused about that. If I am not being clear, please scroll back up a few exchanges in our dialogue if you don’t mind. I just want to be sure to do the right thing. If this is not the correct link for setting up a .com blog when I already have a domain name, pls. let me know because using this link, I have to pay for mapping. https://wordpress.com/start/ Thanks, Jackie!

Sorry to bother you again but it just dawned on me what you mean by a custom domain name. You mean one I chose such as jackiepippin.com. Thus, I need to pay the mapping charge, correct?
-
Hi @woundedjoy,
Apologies that that wasn’t clear! Yes, a custom domain is a domain that you have registered either through WordPress.com or another company.
The free site address that comes with your WordPress.com site is jackiepippin.wordpress.com. If you’d like to replace the free site address with your custom domain – jackiepippin.com – then there is a cost attached.
Let me know if that makes sense or if you have further questions.

Thank you! You were very clear. I am such a newbie I just didn’t understand. I do now. Thanks! You’ve been a great help!

Something else. I have decided that I will stay with my current domain name until January. for now i will just change themes. I have chosen one, activated it and am customizing it. How do I transfer my past posts and my followers and tags to this theme? I will have to delete the old theme so it is not confused with this one. How do I do that? Thank you!!
-
Can you let me know the name of the site that you’re currently working on as well as the name of the site that I can see the content you wish to transfer? I’ll be happy to help from there.

Thank you.. I have decided the theme is too plain. I am going to look for another one. Thanks!

I would like to look at the themes Fabulous Fluid, Full Base, Xcel and Varient Landing Page Four. However, as I scroll thru the themes they all have 2 choices: Preview and Download. If I choose download as I did once before, it gives me pages of code. I think the button that is missing is Activate. I brought this to you once before and you took me to a page that had the activate button. Could you do that for me again? Also, would Varient Landing Page Four be an item all within itself, unattached from the blog but that points people to my blog? Thank you!! Jackie

Sorry to bother you again but I am trying to preview themes and when I click on preview the same page comes up for every theme. There is no actual preview of any of the themes I have tried to see. And, that’s a lot. This needs to be brought to someone’s attention. Thanks! Jackie

Hi Jackie,
There aren’t any themes with the following names in the WordPress.com theme repository: Fabulous Fluid, Full Base, Xcel and Varient Landing Page Four.
It sounds like you may be browsing a third-party repository of or Appearance > Themes in the dashboard of your site at woundedjoy.com (which is currently hosted outside of WordPress.com and running on the free software available at WordPress.org).
If you would like to host your site here at WordPress.com then you can activate any of the themes that are available in our repository.
If you would like to keep woundedjoy.com at is current hosting then you can navigate to Appearance > Themes in its admin area and download/install any of your choice. If you have trouble along the way then the WordPress.org community forum would be the best place for you to get support:
https://wordpress.org/support/
Thanks!
