Delayed transfer of site

    I have a custom domain and it seems I must buy another custom domain from wordpress before I can upload a theme and rebuild my site on the wordpress platform. Then I want to upload the new design to the site I already own, not have two separate domains. Is there any way to do this? My current site is active on another platform and has paid subscribers. Thank you.

    Hi there,

    You don’t need to buy a custom domain from us first, no. When you create a site on WordPress.com, we give you a free WordPress.com subdomain, like you have at http://wreckhousepress.wordpress.com/. That address works just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).

    So you can experiment and build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address (uploading your own custom theme will require our Pro plan), and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.
