Delete a blog and make it publicly unsearchable

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to delete a blog and leave no trace of it. The site that we’re using right now is paid and has its own domain. I did use however the name of our site as a blog to test using WordPress. I’ve deleted the blog through the settings without knowing that it leaves behind a notice of deletion by the authors. The blog is still searchable on the Internet using the same name, for example mysitename.wordpress.com is still accessible while mysitename.ph is the one we’re currently using.

Is there anything I can do? I can no longer access the deleted site to make things private. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi astraphiliaaaaa,

The blog is still searchable on the Internet using the same name, for example mysitename.wordpress.com

WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google when your site has been updated. However it can take 4-6 weeks for these changes to be reflected in search results — this part of the process is out of control.

You could make a request for the deleted content to be removed from Google’s search results:

    https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en

You will need to enter the URL copied from Google search results — not the actual URL of the site itself (example.wordpress.com).

I can no longer access the deleted site to make things private.

If a site has been deleted, visitors to your site won’t be able see any content. Deleted content can still appear in search results but clicking through will display a message to say the site is no longer available.

    I hope this helps!

Hello! Thanks so much for your help.

I’ve tried your suggestion and made requests on Google to take down search results.

One more thing however, I intended also that the site I removed seemed as if it never existed like other unregistered WordPress domains. It never really had any visitors or followers anyway. Is there any way to do it? Or do I have to wait out for the notice to expire or something?

    Thank you.

    Hi astraphiliaaaaa,

I intended also that the site I removed seemed as if it never existed like other unregistered WordPress domains.

Can you clarify what you mean here? Are you referring the deleted site message you see when visiting the site now?

Yes ma’am, precisely that: the site should provide no notice of deletion by the authors.

    Hi astraphiliaaaaa,

the site should provide no notice of deletion by the authors.

I’m afraid it’s not possible to remove this message, it’s displayed for all deleted WordPress.com sites.

    Okay, thanks for the help!

@astraphiliaaaaa Hi there. Posting frequently on your new site will have the effect of pushing the old site down in search engine returns as well.

Best wishes for your new site. :)
