delete a link to pagefile content that no longer exists?
-
hello,
a link to a PDF file on my primary domain which no longer exists still works and shows the deleted file?
I’d bought my own domain holybatsex, and edited the old content.
Anyone know how to fix it? Should I somehow make holybatsex.com my primary account, delete the old primary edlear30 (which wordpress tells me is impossible), how do I get rid of this deleted content?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the URL please?
To keep things running quickly around here, files are held in multiple caches through a separate system. These caches are usually cleared within 3 days.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blogs and/or blog content does not remove any indexed items from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months. See here https://support.google.com/websearch/troubleshooter/3111061

You may also want to clear your browser’s cache, and relaunch the browser.
https://kb.iu.edu/d/ahicIt could be something that’s only appearing on your system because it was loaded previously!

Thanks very much but based on over 9 years of providing support here this is a not browser related issue.

Did you delete the file from a Post or Page? Or did you delete it from the Media Library. You need to delete the file from the Media Library to have it gone from your site.
Deleting it from a Post or Page leaves it in the Media Library with the link still working

hi,
I have a primary domain Edlear30 and a separate domain to the site HolyBatSex.com
This was the file I’d deleted, but still links to content that’s no longer available
https://edlear30.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/email-from-colleague-about-the-tribunal-and-allegations-of-misconduct.pdfI thought this could either be a browser/search engine issue, ie it shows the content that HAD once existed somewhere in time
OR, if I’d deleted the file from the media library it might fix it, but I haven’t tried that yet.
If it works I’ll let you know

I’d just deleted the file from my media library and the link still seems to work?
Do I just have to wait until every browser which ever opened the file deletes it’s cache?
-
That link gives me a 404 error – page not found – – for me
Try clearing your browser cache – remember also that search engines may keep a cached copy for some time

Hi @edlear30, it’s gone from our servers now. It’s just a matter of clearing out cache that could be in your own browser, as well as cache that could be in search engines. If you’d like to ask Google to clear their cache, here’s how to go about it: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663691?hl=en

hi,
thanks for your help. I did think it might be media file in the library, but thought I’d ask if anyone else knew how to fix it.
-
Yeah, if the file is in your library, ultimately it’s still accessible. So if you need to delete media, be sure to remove it from the post as well as the media library. From there it’s just a matter of waiting for cache to clear.
