Delete a picture
-
Hi there, I want to delete a picture but i can’t manage it. i deleted the article with that picture in it already, but the direct link to the pic still exists. In my mediathek that pic isn’t listed anymore but the link is still active. how can i finally and ultimately delete that one?

Any image you delete from your Media Library will no longer be displayed as it’s no longer on the servers when browsers call for it to be displayed. Media Library » Deleting Files

thanks timethief. actually i did exactly what you described. but the link is still available. is there a time delay in deleting or will it get deleted immediately?

but if it’s no longer on the servers at wordpress, why does it still retrieve from a direct link url address? for example one that i’ve deleted but still shows is http://wb4all.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/farida-and-tom-june-16-2011-great-pic-007.png. i deleted it, it no longer shows in media library, but it still responds to that URL direct address.

I see a 404 (page not found) ie. deleted. You are viewing a cached copy. You need to clear you browser cache and cookies. http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

I can see it. You’re certain it’s not in your media library? You may require staff intervention.

We use three different caches to speed image delivery, and deleted images aren’t always removed from each cache at the same time.
For a little while after deletion, you may see the image some times, but not others, depending on which cache you’re hitting.
The two listed images have been purged from all caches.
