Delete a site; never able to use the URL again… ever. Why?

Why can I not re-use a WP.com URL — ever — after I delete the site that it points to?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Daniel,

That’s our policy currently to help ensure no one can grab your previous URL without your knowledge and possibly embarrass you or try to impersonate you. If we change this in the future, existing deleted sites will be still unavailable to keep our word to our previous users.

We can “empty” your site for you, giving you a blank site once again, and you can make your site private to disable access for anyone besides you or other folks you allow.

If you would like me to empty your site, please let me know and confirm that once I empty it, everything on the site will be erased and won’t be able to restore it.

If you would like to make it private, you can do so via the Settings->Reading page on your dashboard at https://danapalooza.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php

Please let me know if you have any other questions or need anything else.
