  Usernames can only be deactivated — this prevents others from taking the username and impersonating you.

  You can empty and delete your sites, and remove all data but the email address, then block all emails here:
  https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions

  You could also remove the email address by switching to a throwaway address. Just note we would not be able to help you regain access to that username.
