Delete Account

You cannot delete the account. You can delete any blogs associated with it though. As far as the account itself, just forget about it. Any data in it is safe.

Please be aware that if you are moving blog content to wordpress.ORG install and you choose to use the wordpress stats plugin and/or Akismet for spam filtering you need a wordpress.COM account for the API keys required. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/api-keys/Also note that when one deletes a wordpress.com blog the URL cannot be recycled and reused. It’s gone forever. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

I have a sever hacking issue – so I would like to know how does allowing the account to still remain keep you safe from something like that?
-
The issue you have on a self hosted wordpress.ORG install has nothing whatsoever to do with your wordpress.COM username account. The two sites are completely separate and have separate username accounts and logins.

Why can’t an account be deleted? And how is it safe? And how do you “inactivate” an account? Seems awfully suspicious that it was never mentioned that when I was forced to covert my MSN space to this WordPress site that I would not be able to delete it if I was not satisfied with the new site. This site is not at all what I was lead to believe it was. I do NOT want to start a public blog. I just wanted a MSNLive space. I don’t trust that this site is safe with my information just by saying that it is. And the fact one cannot delete an account makes me less assured of that safety!

You can certainly delete the blog. You can’t delete the account.
Note that if you do delete the blog, nobody, not even you, can ever use that URL again. There IS no way to undo a blog deletion.
The MSNLive space you want is no longer an option. Microsoft discontinued it. If you don’t like WordPress.com, you can export your blog contents from here and import them into whatever platform you choose: tumblr, blogspot, Facebook, whatever.

It seems to me that WordPress would not want space taken up with ’empty’ content. I do not need this account yet my email address and password is hooked up to it. I do not have a blog attached to it but what is to prevent someone from using my username and password to create a blog and post on it using my name?
-
The only way that could happen is if you had an easy to guess password. That is always the weakest link. WordPress.com is seriously secure.
-
If you could completely delete all record of you here what is to prevent me then from using your old user-name and doing vile things with your reputation? Much better to keep your account and just put the big password on it as @TSP recommended.

I wanted to start a 2nd blog address so I did so under my 1st account & user name. I did not realized the 1st user name would be the same user name for the 2nd blog. My user name is the same as my address – but I don’t want my 1st user name to be applied to my 2nd blog. How can I separate my 2nd blog address from my 1st blog address & user name?

While logged out of wordpress, create a completely new account with the new username. Then transfer the blog over to that new account.
