  I want to delete this account. Absolutely infuriating that there appears no way to do this.

  Yes, you are correct, WordPress.com is unable to delete user accounts. https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

  You can leave your account inactive and unsubscribe from all WordPress.com emails. Directions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/subscriptions/#subscription-settings

  You can delete your blog(s):
  http://support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/

  Or empty the site, which allows you to keep the domain:

  Empty Your Site to Start Fresh
