DELETE BLOG ???

Instead of making different Catagories when I was first setting up the blog, I made a blog for each topic. I have about 6 blogs. How do I delete the extra blogs? I only want sunnydayslifenfibromyalgiaeyeofstorm

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I suggest you set the blogs you don’t want to use to “Private” and use one for testing etc. I would suggest that you DON’T delete the blogs – the forum is full of people that changed their mind and want their blog back, but once a blog is deleted it is gone forever even from you.

You can export the other 5 blogs, then import each to the one you want to use.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ (pay attention to importing media!)

Or just copy and paste if you have only a few posts on each…

Finally set the other blogs to “private” and use the main blog from now on.
While you can delete the others, you might decide at another time you want to use them again, and because WordPress does not recycle blog names you will be happy to still have access to the old ones. Also, you likely will find it very useful to have some “extra” private blogs so you can experiment with different themes or features.

If you really want to permanently delete the other extras blogs:

    Hi guys,
I deliberately deleted a blog because the ‘My Blogs’ dropdown was Not Accurately Reflecting the New Blog Name-Change.

Now I can’t get it back and I am reading that it’s gone permanently. Well, for one, there was no content in it and for another and more important reason; I don’t think it’s fair to not get my own blog name back if my initial reason for deleting it was apparently WordPress’ own system that, again, was not apparently reflecting the name change in the My Blogs dropdown (upper-left corner).

And yes, I did log out and back in a couple of times to check if the change would be reflected, to no avail.

That being said, I’d like to respectfully request an exception and have my “sub-blog” (of mappingthematrix.wordpress.com), shelterre.wordpress.com re-instated.

    Thank you.

@mapping We can’t help you get your blog back – you can try contacting the staff and asking them but I have never heard of them returning a blog that a person deleted.

    @mapping,

The my blogs list is cached and sometimes it can take up to a few hours to update. Also, some browsers will hang onto cached pages tenaciously and will not update till you shut the computer completely down. Typically if you log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache, history and cookies, restart your browser and then try again the list will update.

These are the first two paragraphs on the delete site page and the first one is highlighted in bright yellow.

Please read carefully. You are trying to permanently delete blog.wordpress.com.
If you do not want blog.wordpress.com to exist any more, you can delete it. This CAN NOT be undone. It is permanent.
All of your posts and data will be gone forever on this blog. If you have other blogs, they will remain intact.

Then you need to click the box saying you understand next to this:

I want to permanently remove allthekingshorses.wordpress.com and I am aware I can never get it back.

If you could take a sentence to tell us why you’re deleting this blog we would really appreciate it. If you are moving your blog someplace else, let us know where!

The warnings are repeated in the confirmation email that this is permanent and you will not be able to get that same blog back.

Thanks for the replies and insight.

Just to clarify; I don’t want the blog’s contents back– there was nothing really in it– it had just been created. What I wanted was the URL, itself, back intact– to at least use it (again). According to the system, I cannot use it anymore– it says it’s taken or whatever.

So, it’s not the blog per se that I’m after, but rather, the intact URL of the blog. I realise that I can append a number or something at the end of it, and then just make the name of the blog the same, which is what I’ve done in the mean time, but I’d rather have the address-name without the append.

As I’ve read; it is not a question of ‘recycling the URL’, but, rather, just getting it back, as in ‘urldeleted.wordpress.com’. It was available at the time of registration and is my own address/name for it.

It is highly unlikely they will give that URL back to you given that they have made it very clear during the deletion process that it is permanent, but you can always ask.

Well thanks thesacredpath just the same.
    I’ll send a message along.

My three points of contention are:
    – “URL-squatting”: Ostensibly, it would stand to reason that any previously-used and deleted URL should be back for use again.
    – Better clarification/distinction, perhaps, of blog content permanently deleted AND permanent disabling of URL for further use.
    – Maybe some kind of better system feedback or response-time on name-changes, if possible, given as you suggest, browser cache, etc., issues.
    – Any reasons given as to why the URL (the first part– the personal name choice part) can’t be acquired? I imagine that if WordPress.com last long enough, it may progressively be harder to find a decent URL.

Anyway, I’m more or less ok for now with the number append to my URL name portion, seeing as the blog name can be the same without any change from the previous blog name.
