Delete blog content and start fresh using SAME BLOG NAME
-
I want to delete all content from my blog, select a new theme and reload content (which I have saved off-line). When I selected “Delete all content”, I received the following:
“If you wish to empty your blog of all of its content but keep the blog name, please contact support, and one of our Happiness Engineers will be glad to lend a hand. Do note that once the blog is emptied, the content is gone forever, so please make sure you mean it before you ask us to empty your blog.”
So here I am, Mr. Happiness Engineer. What’s next?

Why would you want to delete all your content, only to add it all again with a different theme? There is no logic to it. All you have to do is change your theme, surely?

Th agree with therattling door. No content is evern lost when changing themes > Appearance > Themes
select theme > Activate
The widgets you use migrate into the Inactive Widgets box and you go here Appearance > Themes and place them where you want them to display in sidebar or footer areas. Open each one, configure where reaquired, click “save” click “close” and that’s it.If you do actually want to delete content then you can do it by bulk editing. If you do not have a lot of content you can easily delete all blog content by yourself rather than waiting for Staff to do it for you.

Thank you therattlingdoor and timethief for your advice. I see I should have provided a bit more background.
The blog is under development and has a home page and two linked pages that have useful content. I added a calendar and a link to the sidebar, thinking they would be useful, but I don’t need them.
My problem began when I looked for a way to delete these two things from the sidebar – there was no obvious, even opaque, way to do this. I couldn’t figure how to change themes to a one-column, which would have probably solved the problem.
I want to keep the blog name, so I decided to save the limited content I have to a text file and empty the blog. I hope that I can create a new theme that is not two-column.
If I’m on the wrong track, please let me know. If I’m on the right track, I will use timethief’s suggestions.

You cannot build or use your own custom theme built from scratch at WordPress.com. The only themes we can use are those found here > Appearance > Themes
This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/You are using Twenty Eleven and I suggest you read the article I just linked to very carefully. Then you will know how thw theme is designed to operate. If you want a single column thene then choose one of these themes > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/one-column/

The widgets (calendar) you wish to remove from your sidebar you just remove from ‘widgets’. Go onto Dashboard>Appearance>widgets. And the links you remove from ‘links’, which is also in your dashboard.
