Delete blog from search engine

No matter what privacy settings I choose our blog still shows up on search engines. We do not want our blog to show up. We’ve transferred to another host. Will deleting all the contents allow it to be removed from search engine lists? Otherwise we’ll just delete it permanently. I generally do not do “permanent” things but that may be our only option at this point. Thanks!

However, any content in it that was indexed by search engines before it was made private will still appear in search engine page results. -
It take several months for search engines to clear their caches –
Don’t delete your blog here – you have set it to “Private” – good start
It looks like you have moved – in that case buy the “Site Redirect” upgrade and that will send traffic from your old blog here to where ever your new blog is – Search engines will now be told that things have changed and your visitors will not get lost

Request access to view the site. We’ll send your username to the site owner for their approval.
Log out and sign in as different user. You’re logged in as ‘timethief’.

You can contact search engines one by one and ask them to delete the material, but they generally won’t. It will happen automatically after a period of a few months, however. Setting a blog to private actually seems to remove the contents from search engines faster than deleting it.
If you’ve transferred to another host, keep blogging there and the more you post, the faster your new blog will outrank the old in search engines.

Thanks so much for all of these quick and great replies! I’ll keep it as is for now and hope the search engines eventually catch up. The “Site Redirect” option is a good one. We didn’t have much traffic before and are just now trying to beef up traffic on another blogsite. We may want a wordpress again in the future which is why I didn’t want to delete it permanently. But for right now, I’d just love for it not to show up.
