Delete Categories?

  How do I do this? I accidently created a category that I want ditch. It isn’t being used for any of my entries. How can I make it go poof from the list?

  Go to manage > categories and click the word “delete” at the right end of that category listing.

  I am having a problem with this. I have deleted all my unwanted categories as indicated, but when I write a new post, all those old categories are still listed for me to select from. How can I have ONLY my current (undeleted) categories visible at the bottom of a new post I’m working on?
