How do I delete a category that I no longer want on my blog?

My screen looks different from what is show in the instructions. Maybe the version in the one given is an older version of WordPress? On my screen there is the category section you can choose from when making a new post, but you cannot edit them-or at least there is no option.

yeah, i’m facing the same problem, my screen looks like totally different from tutorial given.

I am having the same problem. moving my mouse over the category does Not give me any type of option. There is no way to delete a category while I am on the” write a new post” page and there is no way to get categories elsewhere.

I just used the support page instructions to look at this. You need to access your WP-Admin dashboard.Use this link (insert your blog name):
https://YOUR-BLOG-NAME.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category -

I don’t understand this. I put in my blog name in the above link and it says it does not exist. I need more specifics, is there a certain way I have to type my blog name into the link?
