delete domain name

  Dear WP.com,
  I would like to delete my domain name on my wordpress.com site to help facilitate moving it to hostgator and a wordpress.org site. Right now everything keeps redirecting to the wordpress.com. Your site says to contact you if I want to have a domain transferred or deleted from my account.

  Hi there,

  First of all, please note that you do *not* want to cancel your domain if you want to use it elsewhere, as doing so can make the domain unavailable for a period of time and often it is not made available to re-register later.

  To point your domain to a new hosting provider, you can update your name servers following the directions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

  If you’d prefer, you can transfer the domain itself to a new registrar instead: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/#transfer-to-another-registrar
