Delete Domain Name Before Registration Expires
-
Hi,
I moved from wordpress.com to wordpress.org and am having trouble with deleting my wordpress.com site.
When I go to tools>delete site, it shows the following:
Warning! You cannot delete a blog if the blog has a domain registration upgrade. You must have access to the blog in order to get to the domain manager.
If you do not want to use your blog any more please make it private. Other users won’t be able to visit the blog but you can still access the Dashboard so you can get to the domain manager.
I transfered the domain name (capitalcityeatz.com) to Dreamhost and my new site shows successfully at http://www.capitalcityeatz.com. But capitalcityeatz.com is still showing as a domain name in my WordPress account which is why I am unable to delete my site.
My wordpress site is capitalcityeatz.wordpress.com.
Thank you in advance for your help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I can remove capitalcityeatz.com from your account for you.
Are you absolutely sure that the transfer went through? If I remove it now, you won’t be able to recover it if the transfer hasn’t happened.

staff-blorbo,
Yes, please delete capitalcityeatz.com from my WordPress account.
Thank you!
-
For security reasons, I’ll need to actually receive the request from the samianddavid user that owns the domain.

I have removed the domain from your account as requested.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

Remove mine too please!! hungergamesx3.com
Will that delete my other primary wordpress domain?? -
makix3, I see that your domain is still registered with us. If I cancel it, I can’t guarantee that you’ll ever be able to re-register it.
Would you like me to do that?

makix3, it looks like one of my colleagues has already taken care of this for you.
fadiman, I have canceled your domain as requested.

I stumbled upon this thread and I was wondering if you could help me. I’m confused as to why my registered domain still has ”…wordpress.com” in the dashboard URL?
Thanks!

@kristinabustos
Did you purchase a domain mapping upgrade?
If so then did you follow all the steps required to either:
(1) Register a new domain through WordPress.com or
(2) Map an existing domain (one you already own) to your WordPress.com blog. Please provide a specific reply that includes te URL for the underlying .wordpress.com blog in question, and the URL for the domain in question.
-
So here’s what I did: this week I created a free blog on wordpress.com topadaily.wordpress.com. I decided to change the name to topasiandaily.com, and then I then decided to register it as domain to make it topasiandaily.com so yes I did register the domain through WordPress.com. I also don’t think I purchased a a domain mapping upgrade. I’m not sure what it is.
Anyhow, under my Settings, it shows that I have two domains – topasiandaily.com and topasiandaily.wordpress.com – but I have topasiandaily.com as my primary. Now when I go to My Blogs, I only have one blog listed topasiandaily.wordpress.com. So that’s one of my confusion that maybe you could explain.
Another confusion is why when I log in to admin, my URL is http://topasiandaily.wordpress.com/wp-admin/?
I figured that once you have registered domain the URL should be http://topasiandaily.com/wp-admin/, right?
Thanks for you help!

The reason we purchase domain mapping is so that all the URLs from the .wordpress.com root blog when clicked seamlessly redirect to the same content in the post under the new domain URLs. Your domain mapped blog is operating normally. I have two of them. This is the underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain URL where your content is located http://topasiandaily.wordpress.com and on the Admin side of the blog the URLs you see – are those and that’s normal. This is the URL for the domain you are mapping to http://topasiandaily.com and it’s those domain URLs that your visitors see. All is well.
-
So it’s all good on that part? It’s normal to have one blog (topasiandaily.wordpress.com) listed under “My Blog”?
And I don’t need to purchase domain mapping since I’ve already registered my domain?
I also noticed that when I click my username in this thread, it directs to me my first blog name topadaily.com. What can I do to fix that?
Lastly, another reason why I asked about the …wordpress.com being in the dashboard URL is because I also came across a thread (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/adding-a-new-downloaded-theme-to-wordpress) about a member asking why he/she is having a hard time installing a theme downloaded, and the problem pointed out was because her dashboard URL includes …wordpress.com, which means WordPress is still managing her blog despite it being a registered domain.
I’m also having the same problem with her when it comes to installing a theme I downloaded. I don’t have the “Install” button too.
Again thank you for your help!
-
You cannot install a theme you purchased somewhere else onto a WordPress.com blog. Those are for WordPress.ORG blogs only.
Registering a domain doesn’t change the kind of blog you have. Only changing your hosting does that.

Hi all,
I’ve been trying to do this for a while, but I’m not smart enough to figure it out. I’ll I’d like to do is delete my WordPress blog/site (rantthis.com), not just private. However, I get the message samianddavid got when trying to delete (i.e. Warning!…). Can someone explain to me in layman’s terms how to delete all traces of this site? I don’t care if I lose the domain name in the process.
Thanks,
Joe
