I want to delete my account here, but I’ve read I can’t do that. So I changed my e-mail address and username, but when I try to post comments on other wordpress blogs it still asks me to log in with my old e-mail address. I don’t want to log in! I have a blog at blogspot.com. WordPress is really starting to annoy me…

If the email address you used is associated with a WordPress.com account, you will be required to log in to comment.

If that email address is not associated with a WP.com account, make sure to log out of WordPress.com and clear your browser cache and cookies following the instructions here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookies

Also, make sure you are logged out of WordPress.com when you try to comment. Depending on the site owner’s discussion settings, you may have to post your email address or even log in to your WordPress.com account.

No, zizizie, you don’t go around changing your email address or username or things like that to delete your blog. WordPress DOES allow you to delete your blog (can’t imagine a service that won’t let you terminate usage).

To delete your blog, you must log in with your OLD username and password.

Then go to the Dashboard > Tools > Delete Blog. Simple as that.

    Read the advisory: http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

    Hope this helps.

I did delete my blog, but they won’t let you delete your account. I read that you could change your username and email address to another address you don’t use much, so I did that. The problem is that wordpress still asks med to log in when they “detect” my old email address when I try to comment on wordpress blogs. I deleted that address on my wordpress profile. I cannot sign in with it, because it’s changed. And I want to type in my old email address when leaving comments because it’s the one I use most. I want out of wordpress. I’m stuck. I use blogspot.

Yes, that is true, the account remains even if the blog is no more. There’s really no way around that problem for the moment until the powers-that-be at WordPress tweaks it sometime in the future.

Possible workaround? I personally use a different email address. If you haven’t got a secondary email address, then try to contact WordPress Support staff directly and ask them to delete your account as well.

If and when I can fish out a proper WordPress support email, I’ll post it back for you. Give me a few days to do that.

If you cannot log in with the changed email address, try using only your username or use the password recovery system to get access.

Once you have access, change your user account email address to one that is not associated with a WordPress.com account. If necessary, create a special email address only for it.

As long as you try to comment using an email address that has a WordPress.com user account associated with it, you will be asked to log in.

    Good luck.

Username accounts are not deleted at WordPress.com and no exceptions are made for any reason http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/ but please note the following:

    1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.

    2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
    http://wordpress.com/#!/following/subsettings/

    3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:

Here’s what I did like 2 weeks ago:
I deleted my blog and changed my username. I also changed my e-mail address to an address I don’t use much at all. The e-mail address I use is no longer found anywhere in my wordpress account, only the one I don’t care about. So far, so good. When I try to post comments on wordpress blogs using my normal email address (which I deleted from my account 2 weeks ago) this message still appears: “You are being asked to login because (email visible only to moderators and staff) is used by an account you are not logged into now.” How can that happen? I don’t want to log in, and they won’t let me log in because the email address is changed! Stupid wordpress! I want my normal email address to be gone from wordpress, I did change it, and you can’t find it anywhere on my account, but they still ask med to log in when I use that email address. Blah! Help!

At this point we’re just repeating ourselves. The fact that you are getting the notice to log into your account means whatever email address you are using when you post your comments is associated with a WordPress.com account.

Email addresses appear in two places: once under your personal settings and the second under the site’s admin email address.

You have two separate email address settings at WordPress.com.

Blog notifications for the admin (like comment moderation, Likes, new subscriptions, etc) are sent to the email address at Settings -> General in the Dashboard.

Personal notifications (like comments on your post, subscription emails, and upgrade renewals) are sent to the email address at Users -> Personal Settings in the Dashboard.

Exactly and I hope zizizie understands that now.

Yes, I know I’m repeating myself. That’s because the problem is not solved…Thanks for trying to help though :-)
First I get this: “You are being asked to login because (email visible only to moderators and staff) is used by an account you are not logged into now.”
Then: “ERROR: There is no user registered with that email address.”

Did you clear your browser cache and cookies like I mentioned above?

Regardless, this thread has been tagged for staff assistance; hopefully someone will be able to get you sorted out.

Would you please let us know what the email address is?

As long as you post it in a standard format, only myself and my colleagues will be able to see it.

The one I want to delete is (email visible only to moderators and staff)

That email address currently belongs to a Gravatar account: http://en.gravatar.com/

You’ll need to log in at Gravatar with that email address to remove it from that account.
