delete existing blog and account and set-up brand new account

  I’m trying to create a brand new account on WordPress.com. I have had a WordPress blog and registered domain for almost a year. I just cancelled “auto renew” for the domain I own because I don’t want it anymore. I also don’t want the blog associated with that domain anymore. But I do want to create a new account and a website using WordPress.com. I have two emails and both are apparently registered with WordPress so I can’t go to my blog admin site and use “Users –>My Personal Settings –> Email” to change my email. If I could do that I could apparently be in a position to set-up a new account. I am at a loss of what to do? Can someone help me?

  Hi there,

  Every WordPress.com account is associated with a unique email address. That means you can’t use a the same email address for two user accounts. Also, it’s not possible to delete a user account, although you can delete your blog itself.

  So you have a few options. You can either keep the same account, change your username if you like, and open a new blog, or you can log out of your current account entirely and create another user account using an email address that you haven’t already used. Finally, you could go through the process to change the email address for your existing account to some email you don’t use that often, which will free up your primary email address to be used with the new account.

  Also, I can go ahead and cancel your domain now for you so you can delete your blog, but please note that if you cancel it, there’s no guarantee it will become available to register again. If you want to use it with another site (not at WordPress.com), you should transfer it rather than cancel it.

  If you’re sure you don’t want it at all anymore, please reply and confirm that I should fully cancel domain simply4you.org.

  Thanks for the reply. Yes, please fully cancel the domain simply4you.org. And I guess I’ll try keeping my existing account but changing my username. It sounds like that will allow me to proceed with my website construction. In your reply you said “…and open a new blog,…” but I assume that same method will enable me to start a website. Both of my emails are registered with WordPress so in order to change my email I’d have to create a new one which I don’t really want to do. Thx again.

  Ok, I’ve canceled your domain. You can now delete your blog in this way:
  Delete Site

  Note that this is permanent. If you’re not certain about it, you can set your blog to private rather than delete it.

  You can change your username in this way:
  Change Your Username

  Note that once you’ve changed it, the old one can never be used on WordPress.com again.
