Delete hidden file?
-
There’s a PDF file showing up in Google that indicates that it’s posted on my blog, but I can’t find it anywhere on my blog. How do I delete it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Look in your Media Library – that has all the files / pictures attachments etc even ones not used in Posts or Pages anymore –
-
It’s not there and I never uploaded it to the blog. I need to delete it. When I click the file in Google it just opens the PDF. It says that the file is located at: plasticbodies.files.wordpress.com2013/02/jhp511a875ac5ab2.pdf

See here first bulk delete images & media http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/deleting-files/#bulk-deletion
Then here’s how to permanently delete Trash from your uploads folder >
http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#deleting-permanentlyIMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content does not remove it from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

Don’t know – I have flagged this for the staff to look at your blog – they are a bit backed up now with requests however

Thank you for looking into this further. I could access any trash folder to delete anything (and couldn’t find a trash folder anywhere, actually). I’m absolutely sure I didn’t upload this file to my blog, so it’s associated with the blog somehow without being uploaded by me.
-
Well, if your blog is http://plasticbodies.wordpress.com/, the PDF had been uploaded to it; correct URL:
http://plasticbodies.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/jhp511a875ac5ab2.pdf@TT: Images and PDFs are deleted at once: there’s no trash folder for them.

Ok, I think I know what happened. I believe I accidentally uploaded the PDF to my media library, then inserted it mistakenly into a post. However, I never published the post and immediately deleted the PDF from my media library. Now I’m disturbed to find that the PDF is coming up in Google search and it was never even published online.
This PDF is under copyright and I do not have permission to post it. Please help.

Did you permanently delete the post from trash?
Beyond that we can’t help you. All search engines issues are between you and Google.

TT: yes, it’s permanently deleted. But I think the bigger issue now is that an unpublished file of mine was made publicly available and continues to be available. So, should I conclude that my media library is not mine, but actually publicly accessible?

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting

@TT: “Did you permanently delete the post from trash?”
Deleting a post has nothing to do with the media library.@plasticbodies: Deleting a file from your media library doesn’t immediately remove it from WP’s servers. You’ll have to wait.
-
still disturbing that the file has effectively been published without my consent.
Agreed.
-
Well technically it wasn’t “published”. It was indexed prior to publication and that’s what I found weird because you said you did not publish the post.
